On Friday, we asked you to name your favorite comic written or co-written by an actor. Well the results are in, and in first place with 23.1 percent of the vote was “Black Hammer: Visions” #1, written by Patton Oswalt, with art by Dean Kotz, coloring by Jason Wordie, and lettering by Nate Piekos. The comic, the first of several spotlighting the characters of Jeff Lemire and Dean Ormston’s ‘Black Hammer’ universe, proved to be another esteemed addition to the series, exploring the Shazam-esque character of Golden Gail.

In second place was a tie between this year’s “DC Pride” story ‘Finding Batman,’ by Kevin Conroy and artist J. Bone, and “Spider-Man: The Short Halloween,” the 2009 special by Bill Hader, Seth Meyers and Kevin Maguire. Although both received 17.9 percent of the vote and involve classic superheroes, they could not be more different: the former is a searing autobiography about how Conroy’s pain living as a gay man helped him find Batman’s voice, while the latter is a comedy from two Saturday Night Live veterans about Spidey being knocked out during a costume parade, and an intoxicated reveler taking his place.

In third place with 15.4 percent was the award-winning “They Called Us Enemy,” by George Takei, Steven Scott, Justin Eisinger and Harmony Becker, depicting Takei’s time as a child during the internment of Japanese Americans in World War II. Overall, this is a really eclectic group of real-life and superhero stories, all of which prove a relative newcomer to the medium of comics can outline a story as well as any seasoned writer.
