On Friday, we asked which of the “Black Hammer” spinoffs was your favorite of the bunch. While putting the list together, it was sort of staggering how many books have already spun off from the main title, and just how rich the universe already is. “Black Hammer,” I believe, will be one of the most important books of the 2010s and beyond, so it was cool to take a step back and just marvel in the sheer size of the work thus far.
That said, there was a clear winner, with 31.5% selecting “Doctor Star and the Kingdom of Lost Tomorrows” as their favorite title. The series, inspired by my favorite comic of all time, “Starman” by James Robinson, Tony Harris, Peter Snejbjerg, et al, was the second spinoff released. The Max Fiumara art is worth the price of admission by itself.
Second place went to “Skulldigger and Skeleton Boy,” which just saw its final issue drop on Wednesday. Closing out the top three was “Colonel Weird: Cosmagog.” These series got 21.3 and 11.1% of the vote, respectively. The fact that two (close to) current series sat alongside a 2018 series shows just how strong the “Black Hammer” universe is to this day. Again, if you haven’t dug in yet, I implore you to do so.
