On Friday, we asked you to name your favorite movie involving comics, cartoonists or fans themselves, and topping the results with 26.3 percent of the vote was Kevin Smith’s 1997 comedy-drama Chasing Amy, starring Ben Affleck and Joey Lauren Adams. While perhaps a little dated, Smith’s tale of a male cartoonist who falls in love with a lesbian artist remains a poignant one, and wound up receiving a welcome follow-up scene in Jay and Silent Bob Reboot.
In second place with 21.1 percent was Creepshow, George A. Romero and Stephen King’s 1982 horror comedy anthology that revolves around the banning of a horror comic. Inspired by comics of their youth like “Tales from the Crypt,” Romero and King’s film has spawned two sequels, a TV show, and now a comic courtesy of Skybound.
In third place we have a tie between Professor Marston and the Wonder Women, and American Splendor, which received 15.8 percent each. Both biopics, Professor Marston explores the life and polyamorous relationships of Wonder Woman co-creator William Moulton Marston, while American Splendor starred Paul Giamatti as the eponymous comic’s creator Harvey Pekar, as well as Pekar himself thanks to its hybrid documentary format.
Thanks to everyone who voted, and thank you to Nick Marino for weighing in with his spirited recommendation of People Places Things. Check back on Friday for our next poll!
