On Friday, we asked which Marvel character(s) should follow in the footsteps of Spider-Man and the Fantastic Four in receiving their own ‘Life Story’ series. For the unfamiliar, those books detail, in real time, the stories of the heroes from their 1960s debuts to current day, with each issue tackling a decade. We were pleasantly surprised with the top vote getter, as it is a character that would change quite a bit as he got older.
Daredevil took the top spot in the poll, collecting 28.9% of the vote. As mentioned in Friday’s piece, Matt Murdock relies so much on his other senses and training due to his blindness, that aging would likely affect him far more than someone with healing factor or superpowers that manifest themselves more physically. The more I think about this story, the more I want to read it.
The X-Men came in second with 18.4% and, while there could be a lot of fun in this story, mutant aging is likely slightly different than human aging, so it may not resemble the other series as closely. There are also so many X-Men that it would be less character focused than most of these other series, unless it just stuck to the original team.
Captain America took home the bronze, with 13.2%. Again, his super serum may make aging different, and having already lost everyone in his ‘original’ life, this story would likely be quite different. That’s the real boon of these stories, that each character’s life would look totally different in a long view.
Check back on Friday for our next poll!
