Last week, we asked our readers to vote for what their favorite original graphic novel was in 2020. Our staff voted for “Slaughter-House Five” as our top choice, but we put out 25 options for our readers to vote on, to see if our staff and our readers aligned this year.
While “Slaughter-House Five” came in second with our readers, garnering 17% of the vote, it did not take the top spot. “Pulp,” the most recent Ed Brubaker/Sean Phillips collaboration took first place, with 34% of our readers giving it the top spot. “Pulp” had come in third on our list, so this isn’t a huge diversion from our staff’s voting, but it is really interesting to see just how enduring and popular Brubaker/Phillips have remained while doing things their own way. It’s a fantastic thing to see.
Rounding out the top three was “November,” which was our seventh choice. This is a bit of a cheat as there were two volumes released in 2020, but Matt Fraction and Elsa Charretier made two fantastic books in the same series, so let’s just squint and pretend it was all one book, ok? OK!
Check back on Friday for our next Reader Poll!
