On Friday, we asked our readers what their favorite Spider-Man villain is, and we listed off a ton of options. Probably too many, actually. But that’s besides the point, because 28.1% of y’all agreed that Otto Octavius, aka Doctor Octopus, is your favorite Spidey baddie.
This is a great choice, not just because of the fantastic on screen portrayal by Alfred Molina in Spider-Man 2 (a personal favorite performance), but also because of the extra layer of the character’s history as the Superior Spider-Man, when he swapped bodies with Peter Parker. Truly one of the defining Spidey runs of the past 25 years, Dan Slott’s “Superior Spider-Man” is a must read, and would alone be more than enough reason to top this list.
25% voted for, perhaps, the most iconic villain of the bunch, the Green Goblin. The earliest Stan Lee/Steve Ditko Spider-Man stories were often Goblin-focused, and he led to, perhaps, the most defining moment of all for Peter Parker, which is the death of Gwen Stacy.
Rounding out the top three was Mysterio with 9.4% of the vote. While a fine villain in his own right, the character got a great boost from Spider-Man: Far From Home.
