On Friday, we asked what show on the newly launched HBO Max should our readers be binging this weekend. I was actually a little surprised when putting together the poll just how many comics-related shows are on the platform. We listed a lot of shows, but one choice clearly resonated with our readers above and beyond all the rest.
47.4% of our readers selected Doom Patrol, which is getting set to debut its second season later this month on both HBO Max and DC Universe. The series, which came in second in our 2019 ‘Best Television Adaptation’ category from our Year in Review, was both a critical and commercial success for the nascent DC Universe platform. We can’t wait for season 2 to drop on June 25th.
After that, three series tied for second place with 10.5% apiece. Samurai Jack, Steven Universe, and Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken are pretty different shows, but Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken is interesting because there was a live-action film set to debut in Japan in May, but was delayed because of the Coronavirus. Maybe our readers were just really jazzed for the film adaptation?
Steven Universe and Samurai Jack are both shows that made the leap into comics after debuting on television, but both have now become somewhat staples of the comic shop over the past few years.
