On Friday, we asked our readers what their favorite Hulk story of all time is. We tried to include most of the big guns, as well as some staff favorites from the entirety of the character’s history. Now, whether this is recency bias or the rare instance of recognizing a classic when it is happening, our readers spoke, and spoke clearly. 50% of our readers say that Al Ewing’s “Immortal Hulk” run is their favorite Hulk story of all time.
As we said on Friday, this series is a staff favorite, the two-time, reigning best ongoing comic of the year, and the type of story that started off strong and keeps getting deeper with each passing issue. Hopefully, when we do this poll again in ten years, people will think back on this story just as lovingly as they do today.
In second place was ‘Planet Hulk’ with 16% of the vote. The arc, by Greg Pak, Carlo Pagulayan, and Aaron Lopresti was a seminal Hulk story that has grown in esteem since its 2006 release, especially after elements of it were incorporated into Thor: Ragnarok. Coming in third were the tied ‘Future Imperfect’ and ‘Joe Fixit,’ each with 8%. ‘Joe Fixit’ was Peter David’s re-introduction of the Grey Hulk, who was less rampage-y and more in control. ‘Future Imperfect’ is the Peter David and George Pérez story that introduced the Maestro in 1992.
If you’re unfamiliar, all of these are fantastic places to begin your Hulk journey. Check back on Friday for our next Reader Poll!
