On Friday, we asked which novel should get the graphic adaptation, inspired by the resounding success of BOOM!’s “Slaughterhouse Five.” While a lot of our selections got multiple votes, three stood out above the rest.
The highest vote getter, with 27.3%, was Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell by Susana Clarke. The novel, suggested by our Manager at Large Jake Hill, is an alternate history novel with elements of fantasy in it. I, personally, have not read it, though it has been recommended to me many times. There was also a television adaptation done through the BBC in 2015.
20.7% of our readers chose Cormac McCarthy’s Blood Meridian, suggested by our News Manager Christopher Chiu-Tabet. McCarthy’s quiet, stark Western, would certainly make a visually stunning comic, though it would likely be a very dialogue-light one. I’d personally love to read this.
And in third place came One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez with 13.8% of the vote. The magical realist novel was suggested by Ramon Piña, who has reviewed many a TV show for us, and is currently recapping The Boys.
Come back on Friday for our next Reader Poll!
