On Friday, we asked you which publisher was having the best year thus far, and y’all responded pretty clearly. 43.9% of you felt that Marvel was having the best 2019. We suspect that this has a lot to do with the recent Jonathan Hickman-led X-titles, with both “House of X” and “Powers of X” being among the best reviewed and best selling titles of the year.

Coming in second place with 21.2% of the vote is DC. This year hasn’t had a signature DC event, but their overall quality has been impressive, and with the crescendo of Tom King’s “Batman” run ramping up, it isn’t too hard to see the overall success of ‘The Year of the Villain’ changing the tide one way or another later this year.

Image came in third with 9.1%. Image has been wrapping up a lot of popular series this year, mainly “The Walking Dead” and “Paper Girls,” so that stuff doesn’t naturally translate to ‘having a good year’ discussions, though I’d argue that both of those series finales were successful in very, very different ways.

We still have a third of the year left, so these opinions will likely change, but it’s interesting to see how our readers are feeling about the year thus far. Check back on Friday for another Reader Poll!

Earlier this week, X-Men ’97, a continuation/reboot of the classic 1990s X-Men cartoon, debuted on Disney+. This is not the first time that an older property has been relaunched, but this feels like one of the most carefully considered reboots of the modern TV era. There’s a lot of nostalgia behind the original X-Men: The […]
