On Friday, we asked our readers what they felt about the looming release of Zack Snyder’s version of Justice League coming to HBO Max in 2021. The cut, long considered just a rumor, has been the topic of a lot of, shall we say, heated discussion on Twitter and beyond for a few years now. But now that the existence has been proven, and the film is set to be coming to your televisions next year, we wanted to know if they felt that the ‘Snyder Cut’ would be the superior version of the film.
65.1% of our readers felt that it wouldn’t make a difference, and that both versions of the film would be bad. Justice League was seen by many as an improvement over Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice, but it was far from a great film in the eyes of critics (40% on Rotten Tomatoes). Though the film had a much better fan score on Rotten Tomatoes (70% fresh), I personally have not encountered anyone who was a big fan.
The next highest represented group was the 21.7% of the vote that said that Snyder’s version would be superior to the cut that Joss Whedon was responsible for. 12% felt that Whedon’s version would remain the superior version. This is a tough call to make because, on one hand, Synder was at the core of this series, and therefore likely has a more pure and thorough understanding of what the film was intended to be. On the other hand, the two films he did direct (Man of Steel and BvS) did not work in the way that, perhaps, they were intended to, and so Whedon was able to help shape Justice League into a more successful film.
And, the kicker to all of this, is one pure hearted reader voted for ‘they will both be wonderful.’ Bless their heart; I sincerely hope the movie makes their year.
