On Friday, we asked you what your favorite Image Comics title released between 1992 and 1995. A large number of books got votes, but only five titles cracked the 10% threshold. The largest vote getter was “The Maxx,” which clocked nearly 20% of the vote, 19.3% to be exact. The series, which also had a popular MTV adaptation, was the brainchild o Sam Kieth, and has aged quite well over the past 20+ years, and has recently been reprinted by IDW in a gorgeous new format.
Coming in second was “WildC.A.T.s.” by Jim Lee, a surprising pick at first with 15.7% of the vote. But there are a few reasons for folks being more familiar with it than some of the other books listed. It is one of the few titles to both be a) in print, b) available nearly in total via a subscription service (on DC Universe, due to Lee’s selling of Wildstorm to DC), and c) one where we still see some of these characters pop up, most recently in Warren Ellis and Jon Davis-Hunt’s “The Wild Storm.”
Third place went to “The Savage Dragon” with 14.5% of the vote. The series, still going strong after all this time, is one of the few comics to ‘age’ in real time, which makes it a really unique and satisfying read. Along with “Spawn,” this is the one Image title that has never really gone away.
Tied for fourth place with 12% of the vote are two vastly different series, “1963” and “Spawn.” We will have reviews of both of those later this week.
Thanks for voting, and check back on Friday for the next Reader Poll!
