Having exhausted the streaming platforms with lots of comic shows, on Friday we asked about the shows that were on platforms that had less robust comic show libraries. We were able to round up shows new and old, animated and live action, that There were still a lot of interesting options, though one stood head and shoulders above the rest.
61.5% of our readers selected Watchmen as the show to watch. The HBO series, which had its first, and likely last, season was a sequel to the 1985 Alan Moore/Dave Gibbons DC maxi-series. Adapted by Damon Lindelof, the show took the story into unexpected paces, both hewing very close to, and straying very far, from the source material. We loved the show, and think our readers made a wise choice.
The classic 1966 ABC series Batman came in second. The show, which took a campy approach to Batman and his colorful cast of characters, got 15.4% of the vote. The series, for over 20 years, was the way that Batman was considered in the mainstream, and took Tim Burton’s gritty 1989 adaptation to change public perception.
11.5% of our readers selected Star Trek: Picard as their top choice, landing it in third place. The sequel series to Star Trek: The Next Generation, saw Patrick Stewart reprise his role as Jean-Luc Picard. It is set to return for a second season in late 2020 or early 2021, though with the film and television industry shut down for the time being, it seems likely that it will be later, rather than sooner.
