On Friday, we asked you what concept album our readers would like to see adapted into a comic book. In what can only be described as a giant upset, XTC’s Skylarking took home the top spot with 24.3% of the vote. A song cycle that can describe a day, a season, a year, or a lifetime, Skylarking wouldn’t make for a traditional comic, but that’s part of the charm of this choice. Plus, there’s a comics reference in “That’s Really Super, Supergirl!”

Coming in second, claiming 21.6%, was David Bowie’s The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars. While Bowie’s life was recently adapted into a graphic novel illustrated by Mike Allred, there hasn’t been an adaptation of this record, which is more or less a complete story about the fictional alien/musician who sleeps his way across the planet while becoming a tragic superstar.

Third place, garnering 13.5% of the tally, went to The Flaming Lips’ Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots, the 2002 album that was, at one point, to become a broadway musical written by Aaron Fucking Sorkin. Clearly a comic is a better fit than a walk and talk musical, right?
