On Friday, as a belated Alien Day celebration, we asked our readers to pick their favorite comics featuring a Xenamorph. While there are certainly not as many Alien comics as some other film franchises, there’s a long history of sequential art from that particular property. But more than that, there are a few comics that are made by some absolute legends of the industry that, perhaps, some of our readers aren’t aware of. That’s why the three books that topped our poll are so exciting; all of them are made by generational talents.
In first place with a commanding 46.2% of the vote is “Aliens: Salvation” by Dave Gibbons and Mike Mignola. Yep, you’re reading that right: one half of “Watchmen” and one hundred percent of “Hellboy” teamed up to make an Alien comic. And, trust us, it is well worth your time to read. It is rare that our readers elect a favorite with this large of a margin, but this book undoubtedly deserves it.
In second place was James Stokoe’s “Aliens: Dead Orbit” with 15.4%. Stokoe is one of the finest artists in any genre of comic, and this book, visually, does not disappoint. Rounding out the top three is the original, “Alien: The Illustrated Story” by Archie Goodwin (!) and Walter Simonson (!!), which carried 11.5%.
Check back on Friday for our next Reader Poll!
