On Friday, we asked our readers to select their favorite animated Batman film from the bevy that have been released, especially in the 21st century. While the last 22 years have been the most prolific, in terms of Bat-toons, the winning film came from a far off time called the 1990s, in a year when grunge was the rage and Bill Clinton got sworn into his first term as POTUS.
Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, considered by some to be the best Batman film of all time, period, came in first with 43.5% of the vote. The movie, which, like so many things, has been slightly sullied by Tom King’s comics, is a true classic. And, like most of these, is available to stream on HBO Max. If you haven’t seen it, check it out.
Coming in second was Batman: Under the Red Hood, the sort of ‘breakout’ animated Bat-film, and one that has been seen as the standard bearer for this type of film since its release. This film made up 13% of our readers’ choices.
Tied for third are two very different, but excellent films, each getting 8.7%: The Lego Batman Movie and Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker.
Check back on Friday for our next Reader Poll!
