Reader Poll Results: Recency Bias May Explain Our Readers’ Favorite Bond

On Friday, we asked our readers to pick their favorite James Bond. While no one took the bait and chose David Niven from the original Casino Royale, each of the other ‘major’ Bonds all got votes, with poor George Lazenby only getting two. But three bonds were the most popular among our readers, and I must admit, the choices were a little surprising to me.

Coming in first place is the outgoing Bond, Daniel Craig. Craig got 31.5% of the vote and, while he’s a perfectly cromulent Bond, he doesn’t exactly portray the standard version of the character. Regardless of my personal opinion, it is clear that our readers will greatly miss him now that he’s hung up the martini glass.

Here’s what really shocked me: coming in second was Timothy Dalton! 28.3% of our readers felt that Dalton, who only made two films as Bond before rights issues and production snafus led to the longest break between Bond films to date, was the best. I love the boldness of our readers!

Coming in third was who I felt, for sure, was going to take home the prize, which is the OG himself, Sean Connery, who garnered 25% of the tally.

Join us on Friday for our next Reader Poll!
