On Friday, we asked our readers what their favorite Spider-Man movie is, in honor of the release of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. While we went to great lengths to include all 12 pre-Across the Spider-Verse films, even going back to the 70s made for TV but released abroad series, only five films got votes at all. And while it is hard to argue against these five films, I was really hoping we had a Nicholas Hammond stan or two in our readership.

Coming with a dominant 55.3% of the vote is Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. This is a slam dunk for me, as no comic film has ever looked this much like a comic in ways that are additive to the story, rather than reminding you that you’re not actually reading a comic (I’m looking at you, Ang Lee’s Hulk!). Having just rewatched this with my son on Saturday, I can’t overstate how great this film is.

Spider-Man 2 was widely regarded in the pre-MCU times as the best Marvel movie of all time and, along with the first two Christopher Reeve Superman films, among the best comic adaptations of all time. Our readers haven’t forgotten how great that film is, with 26.3% of the readers selecting it. Its direct predecessor, 2002’s Spider-Man, was in a distant third with 7.9%. To be fair, even if the voters were doing so just based on the ‘upside down kiss in the rain’ scene, they wouldn’t be wrong.

Finally, the final two pieces of the Tom Holland trilogy, Spider-Man: Far From Home and Spider-Man: No Way Home each got 5.3%.

Check back on Friday for our next Reader Poll!

    By , and | Mar 22, 2024 | Reader Poll

Earlier this week, X-Men ’97, a continuation/reboot of the classic 1990s X-Men cartoon, debuted on Disney+. This is not the first time that an older property has been relaunched, but this feels like one of the most carefully considered reboots of the modern TV era. There’s a lot of nostalgia behind the original X-Men: The […]
