On Friday, we asked which of the seven ‘official’ DC crises was your favorite. As a refresher, those events are “Crisis on Infinite Earths,” “Zero Hour,” “Infinite Crisis,” “Final Crisis,” “Flashpoint,” “Convergence,” and “Dark Nights: Metal.” Every single event got at least vote, which for some reason warms my heart, but two really stood out, as first and second place were separated by less than 2 percentage points.
Grant Morrison’s “Final Crisis,” which dovetailed with his epic “Batman” run and, sort of, indirectly, led to the name of this website, came in first with 34% of the vote. This was somewhat surprising, as the event has been considered somewhat difficult to understand and/or impenetrable, although I think both of those claims are more or less unfounded.
32.1% of our readers felt that there’s nothing like the original, with “Crisis on Infinite Earths” just barely coming in second place. I recently re-read this event, and it really is stunning in terms of how much happens, and how it basically created modern comics. If you haven’t read it, I would highly recommend it.
Coming in a slightly distant third is “Infinite Crisis,” with 19.8%. I actually had this pegged for the winner, due to the combination of it being just old enough to elicit nostalgia, and all the great stuff that spun out of it (“52,” ‘One Year Later,’ etc).
In a cheap plug, one of the podcast I co-host, the DC3cast, is currently going through all of DC’s major events, chronologically. So if you’re interested in reading along/hearing our thoughts on these crises, or other big events (we’re currently covering “DC One Million”), check it out here.
