On Friday, we asked our readers which of the new MCU characters from Black Widow worked best for them. While not as many voters participated as we had hoped – maybe folks are waiting for it to be free on Disney+? – there was a decisive winner, who took in more than 60% of the vote.
With 62.1% of the vote, Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova easily topped the list. As the character that is most likely to show up in subsequent Marvel TV series and films, it makes sense that Yelena needed to work in the film. And work she did.
In a very distant second place was Alexi Shostikov, aka the Red Guardian, played by David Harbour. Harbour was fantastic in this role, and provided a lot of the comic relief for the film. That said, it is hard to see how Red Guardian will play a major role in future MCU installments. He garnered 27.6% of the vote.
6.9% of our readers voted for Taskmaster. Without venturing into spoilers, I would argue that the person inside the suit is more interesting than the suit itself, and the suit got far more play than the person did.
