Reader Poll Results: “Head Lopper” is Our Readers Favorite Norse Comic Story

On Friday, we asked our readers what their favorite Norse comic was – not counting modern takes or Marvel’s Thor comics. While ten different series got votes, the top two were decided by just one vote.

“Head Lopper,” Andrew MacLean’s visual feast of a book squeaked out the narrowest of victories. The series is being released via Image in a “Hellboy”-like model, with self-contained arcs that come out quarterly, although the series retains its ongoing numbering unlike “Hellboy.” If you’re a fan of action comics, “Head Lopper” is the book for you, and MacLean’s dynamic art will make you a convert just a couple of pages in.

Just missing the top spot was Walter Simonson’s “Ragnarok.” Simonson is one of the most celebrated and well known creators to tackle Thor for Marvel, but in “Ragnarok” he shed all the House of Ideas baggage and has gone full Norse mythology, keeping his wholly unique and identifiable style while telling stories that could never have been told at Marvel.

Check back on Friday for next week’s Reader Poll!
