On Friday, we asked which character you, our dear readers, would want to see take on the mantle of Black Panther in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. One of the ideas that was tossed around in our internal Multiversity slack wound up the winner, with the usual suspects not far behind.
A full quarter of our readers voted for Killmonger, whether resurrected or from a different Earth in the multiverse for the new Black Panther. While I do think it was a little premature for the character to die in Black Panther, resurrection seems like a retcon that is a bold move for the MCU. I don’t think this is the way they’ll go, but I’m not surprised that people want more Michael B. Jordan in their lives.
20% of our readers want M’Baku, played by Winston Duke, to succeed T’Challa. We saw him challenge T’Challa in the first film, so he’s not an outside the box choice. Neither are the two characters tied with 17.5%, Shuri and Nakia. There is comics precedent for Shuri to take up the mantle, but I would think that Disney doesn’t really care about being true to the comics in this instance.
Check back on Friday for our next Reader Poll!
