On Friday, we asked our readers who was their favorite supporting character from The Batman. It was a tight competition, as the film was stacked with some top notch actors in some meaty roles. But one character stood out among the rest, and waddled their way to the front of the pack.
Colin Farrell’s turn as the Penguin was not just good enough to get an HBO Max spinoff series, but also to take 36.8% of the vote from our readers. The character’s physical and vocal transformation is truly impressive, and this is a Penguin that we’ve never really seen before, so its not surprising that it resonated so strongly with our readers.
Zoe Kravitz’s turn as Catwoman came in close second, with 31.6%. Kravitz was an excellent Catwoman, instantly differentiating herself from previous versions. Kravitz’s energy somewhat informs the entire film’s tone. 21.1% chose Jeffrey Wright’s Jim Gordon; I’d probably have voted for Wright, as I think the Gordon/Batman relationship was one of the film’s strongest pieces.
