Sometimes, deja vu is real. When I was putting together this poll on Friday, I had a strange sense of having done this before, but put it aside. However, today I realized that while I had not done this poll before, the winning film has topped a reader poll before: last year’s most anticipated comic movies poll.
That’s right, due to its delay, the fan-choice for both 2022 and 2023 is Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse which, this time, picked up 36.4% of the vote (down from a remarkably similar 37% last year). It is not hard to see why this is so eagerly anticipated; in addition to the first film being fantastic, there is simply no other film being released this year that looks anything like this. Hell, some of the style was even copped for the most recent Puss in Boots film, but it couldn’t live up the Spider-Verse look.
Second place – with 18.2% – went to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, the final James Gunn-directed Marvel film for the foreseeable future, as well as the final to feature a number of the Guardians themselves, if press quotes can be believed.
Rounding out the top three is Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania which, forgive me, seems nuts. This must just be because it comes out in a few weeks. But hey, 15.9% of you are really psyched to watch it!
Check back in on Friday for our next poll!
