On Friday, we asked which of the six series nominated for the ‘Best Continuing Series’ Eisner award should take how the prize. In a surprising, but welcome, turn of events, nearly half of our readers selected the same series, and it is one that is almost impossible to argue with its merits.
With 43.8% of the vote, “Usagi Yojimbo” took the top spot of our poll. Stan Sakai’s long-running samurai/animal comic is a delight in just about every way. It’s an amazing comic that has survived across various publishers, and deserves all of its accolades. It also was, by far, the most chosen book on our poll.
With less than half of “Usagi”‘s votes was “The Department of Truth” by James Tynion IV and Martin Simmonds with 19.1%. Tied for third were “Daredevil” by Chip Zdarsky and Marco Checchetto and “Gideon Falls” by Jeff Lemire and Andrea Sorrentino, both garnering 13.5% of our readers’ support.
In fourth place was last year’s winner, “Bitter Root,” by David F. Walker, Chuck Brown, and Sanford Greene with 9%. And one of you, bless your heart, voted for Chip Zdarsky and Ramon K. Perez’s “Stillwater.”
Check back on Friday for our next Reader Poll!
