This episode seems to get back to the basics: Chuck is back to being a caring and (mostly) incompetent spy, Casey is back to being annoyed with Bartowski, and Sarah is back to fighting for more time for her boy Chuck. Oh yeah, and we get some Jeffster, some Buymoria, and some classic Morgan and Chuck time.
All is well in fair Buymoria. See why after the jump.
Synopsis: With Casey, Shaw and Sarah away from Castle on a mission, Chuck is left at the Buy More down his ability to flash and his best friend. See, Morgan just fired him…from best friend duties. Then when the team in to review the Buy More turns out to be filled with Ring operatives, Chuck is backed into trying to save his once and future best friend without his Intersect skills…or die trying.
What Was Good: Jeffster! Viva la Buymoria! Really, between a grand performance of Creedence’s “Fortunate Son” by Jeffster and the revolution at the Buy More when they thought they were going to get fired (not killed, in reality), this was a damn entertaining episode.
The big moment though was Chuck finally getting to tell Morgan the truth. When they thought they were going to die and faced with Morgan getting tortured, Chuck was forced into admitting his spy nature. Just when he thought his diminuitive friend was going to rage on him, Morgan spins on a dime and lays down a “My best friend is a spy? This is unbelievable. This is the best news I’ve ever heard!”
Yes!
Getting that off his chest of course kicked his mojo back in, and Chuck chop sockeyed his way to their freedom.
Plus, we got more with Casey’s potentially sordid past, a point of tension between Shaw and Sarah as Shaw conteplated blowing up Chuck and Morgan to save their secrets, and the reawakening of Nice Guy Chuck. That was a big, underrated part of this episode, as the darkness had been growing recently. It was great to see him take a turn back to being the guy we’ve all grown to love over the years.
What Was Bad: You know, to me there wasn’t a lot to dislike in this episode. While the ending turn with Chuck once again realizing he loves Sarah feeling more than a little redundant, it still was endearing and natural feeling because it was with Morgan.
I guess one other negative would be Awesome slowly but surely losing his mind and becoming decidedly not awesome because of fear of the Ring. Here’s hoping he is re-awesomed in future episodes.
Overall: This was a very entertaining episode that brought all of the things to the table that make this show great. While the relationship parts are still stalling, the rest is just so damn good it’s impossible to not love. Bravo to Fedak and Schwartz on another job well done.
