Welcome back to our weekly review of TBS’s King of the Nerds. This week, the tables are turned as Purple Team faces it first true challenge. Spoilers for a show that aired last week below!

1.) End in Sight
After last week’s crushing victory, everyone genuinely mourns Katie instead of just drinking, including Xander who sings a haunting sonata about her purple hair. Great start. Anyway, the contestants all discuss how the end is now in sight, making the next few episodes a concentrated effort to take out Jack and Zack before everyone is fused together into a free-for-all. It’s comforting to know that we’re almost at the end, but the idea of someone being unrightfully crowned King of the Nerds is a truly discomforting thought. An unjust king would bring ruin to the kingdom, but hopefully the gods will look down upon us and raise the right nerd to their place on the throne.
In the meantime, George Takei shows up.
2.) George Takei-yy Lmao
George Takei is literally so happy to be here you guys. He will do literally anything anyone asks him to. Sit in a cage while the people from Revenge of the Nerds yell at a bunch of people from the internet? Sure thing! He’d probably kill a dude if he got a chance to say “Oh My!” during. That’s probably how he was thrown in prison, specifically laser prison as explained by Curtis Armstrong in Ming the Merciless cosplay which Takei (a noted civil rights activist) would probably be against if they did that in the same room as him. The contestants need to climb their way through a hallway of lasers to reach noted murderer George Takei and save him by answering a math problem.
Gold Team, now made of just Jack and Zack which fits amazingly with their actual team name: Midas Touch At-Ack, make it through the lasers first while Brian just sort of falls down while the rest of Purple team just face palms in the corner. This leads Gold Team to solving the math question and Jack high-fiving George Takei: a man he did not know about a half hour beforehand. He high-fives George Takei in front of people who have spent their entire lives idolizing the man.
This show is delicious.

3.) Legacy of Robo-Nerd
The award for the Nerd-Off, Gold Team’s first win since the series began, is to visit Legacy SFX studios: the creators of some things that aren’t Robo-Nerd and, most importantly, ROBO-NERD: The People’s Robot Champion. Unfortunately he doesn’t show up. Nothing shows up. Jack and Zack go through a door, they skip ahead a couple hours later, and J/Z-Ack talk about all the confidential stuff they saw, all of which is bleeped out. Thankfully, there’s a lot bleeped out of context, namely Jack’s quote following a string of bleeps, “I saw what every little boy could dream of.” Considering that the term “little boy” hasn’t been used appropriately without any sense of irony since 1832, I don’t know what he expected.
4.) Life of Brian
Meanwhile, at Nerdvana, Chris and Brian are voted into the Nerd-Off which is literally just a sci-fi trivia contest with the award for right answers being the chance to fire a mounted turret at some cardboard cut-outs of space ships. Brian wins the first question about Firefly and the second question about Dune which he had to guess. I don’t think David Lynch could answer a question about Dune. Chris makes a small comeback but loses to Brian, resulting in their final final hug together in which Chris, master of the passive aggressive, whispers “Don’t let Zack win.” I can’t help but agree with his dying wish. With Chris gone, the pool of worthy contenders for the phone dwindles once again.
I’m afraid, readers. Afraid our kingdom will fall into ruin.

5.) MVN/LVN
Most Valuable Nerd: George Takei. Always.
Least Valuable Nerd: Brian. With so much at stake, this show’s Joffrey and Other Villain from Game of Thrones left on the table, Purple Team has to step its game up to make sure the throne goes to the rightful king. To be fair, the drama his shortcomings in the laser maze actually compelled me to write that sentence. So either I really care about his adventures or this show’s driving me crazy. We’ll find out next week, in our review of tonight’s King of the Nerds!
