We are on an uncanny streak of two straight great episodes – could the team behind cable ratings behemoth “The Walking Dead” make it all the way to the trifecta. Let’s find out below in my review, as I share five thoughts on last night’s episode, titled “Killer Within.” Heavy spoilers are to follow if you have yet to watch the episode.

1. R.I.P. Lori

Last night brought a couple of substantial deaths, but no greater than the death of Lori Grimes. I have to say: I was pretty surprised by it. Anyone who read the comics knew that her time was coming eventually, but still, taking her out this early in the season was a pretty big surprise. That said, I have to say I am pretty stoked by it (she was easily one of my least favorite characters, and she works better as something to send Rick and Carl down dramatic paths than anything), and the scene itself was handled pretty well. I mean, it was batshit crazy and it was kind of hard to fathom that anyone would think that that was a good idea, but still, the after effects were haunting and powerful. Peace out Lori, you won’t be missed!

Note: technically we didn’t see her get killed. Either way, she’s not likely to be alive.

2. Welcome to the world, baby of currently unknown name!

Yay! Shane’s baby made it but Lori didn’t! What does that mean? Predictably, there will be an entire plot point about collecting formula for her next episode. Not only that, but you’ll likely have both Carl and Rick resenting her. The Walking Dead, now with 100% more baby!

3. R.I.P. T-Dog

I think at some point in this episode, they said T-Dog’s real name. That in itself sealed his fate. You were a man of few words and pointed differences of opinion. You were a man who got plenty of college aged fans of this show drunk. T-Dog, you will be missed, but mostly by the two inmates who remain because you were their only bro.

4. The inmates are in!

More than likely, the two recently deceased members of the cast will be replaced by the now in like Flynn inmates, one of whom legitimately saved Rick’s life in this episode. It was a hell of a thing, and I must say I am eager to see how they interact with the group as a whole.

5. The Governor, doing his thing

There’s a lot going on in Woodbury as well in this mostly excellent, quite packed episode. Merle wants to look for Daryl (while creeping on Andrea), Andrea continues her love of psychos, Michonne doesn’t want any of this Woodbury business, and The Governor? The Governor is doing his thing. Manipulating Andrea and Merle, trying to manipulate Michonne, being an epic badass and hitting golf balls off the top of their wall at walkers. The Governor just kind of owns this show right now, even with everything else going on. Vote The Governor (Phillip!!), 2012!!!
