LOST – 6×13 – "The Last Recruit"

It’s only been two weeks, but it feels like forever. Let’s talk a little bit about “The Last Recruit” as a prehash for the brand new episode tomorrow night.

The Jack/Locke Talk
The two men (well, the man and the monster) sit down for a chat. Jack asks why he used Locke’s body, and Locke ultimately flips it back onto Jack: “because you were kind enough to bring him here in a nice wooden box.” Jack asks who else he’s looked like, and Locke tells him to just ask what he really wants to ask. We then learn that the MIB was indeed posing as Christian Shephard. Why? They needed to find water. Locke tells him he’s just been interested in helping him, and now that Jacob is dead he can help because Jack isn’t trapped anymore.

Tweetup at the Sideways Hospital
Ben arrives at the hospital with Locke just as Jin arrives with Sun. Sun says “no, no, it’s him, it’s him!” as she sees him being wheeled inside. Is she now aware of the island timeline, or was she just delusional? Either one could be true.

Claire and Jack Times Two
Claire and Jack meet in the jungle and Locke leaves so they can chat. Jack tells her he hasn’t decided “Yeah you have…you decided the moment you let him talk to you, just like the rest of us. Whether you like it or not, you’re with him now.” (The last line of the episode: “You’re with me now.”)
Later in the episode, they meet in the sideways and Jack learns just who the Claire Littleton from Christian’s will is. Nice moments.

Desmond, A Dead Man?
I doubt it. The only thing I don’t understand is how he changed Sayid’s mind. Was there more to the conversation? Or maybe Sayid realized that he could still be who he wanted to be, not just who other people always tell him he is. Maybe his “darkness” was lifted by this self-actualization?

Gone For A Swim
Jack’s decision to jump off the boat was an interesting one. It reminded me of Sawyer’s leap from the helicopter. The circumstances are very different, but the cast on board both vehicles was almost the same. I found that interesting.

Mirror, Mirror
We’ve seen a lot of reflections this season, and Jack seeing Locke in the mirror as he lay on the operating table has to be the most intriguing. Is that going to lead Jack to remembering the island events?

Finally!
The Sun/Jin reunion was a very nice moment.

Those are a few things I thought were interesting; I’d recommend rewatching the episode tonight or before the episode tomorrow night. The promo looks and sounds insane.

As Locke said: “here we go.”
