Archaia’s new title Okko: The Celestial Winds hits the stands today and it’s an interesting one. A book that fashions itself after books from the Far East, but actually emanating from France, it shows a heavy influence from Manga and Anime. But was it good? Click the cut to find out!
For starters, the book is incredibly gorgeous. The art provided by Hub, looks like something you should frame and put on your wall. All of the characters have a depth to them, and the backgrounds are breathtaking. I spent a great deal of time just looking at the panels, sort of wishing I were there. The story, also provided by Hub, is reminiscent to me of Ninja Scroll. I mean that in the best way possible. My only real issue with the story is that it was a little on the dry side. I hope it can pick up soon.
Overall, it’s a decent story with some flaws in it. It’s not terrible by any means, but it’s not exactly the best manga I’ve ever read. If you like manga that takes place in the era of Samurai and Feudal Lords, then this book is definitely for you. If not, you could at least check out the pretty pretty art.
