The mid-season finale is behind us, and now we can focus all of our fandom attention on Star Wars: The Force Awakens. To help us with that is the Trickster!
1. Oh, Mark Hamill
I know the character is supposed to be, essentially, a makeup-less Joker, but Hamill goes to new lengths of overacting here. It isn’t that it doesn’t work, because it does, especially because the other rogues aren’t exactly wallflowers either. For a show that is more amped up and comic book-y than anything else on TV, it shouldn’t be shocking that the show takes its villains to extremes, but Hamill, in particular is gonzo. He’s actually sort of scary because he really does commit to going over the top and not giving a fuck.
I just hope he tones it down for Star Wars next week.
Oh, also, he favorited a tweet I sent him last week, so we’re essentially bros. I think he’s crashing at my place this weekend.
2. Harry is conflicted
It would’ve been real easy – like, painfully easy – to make Harry either the ‘good’ Wells or another evil scientist, but the show has gone a third route: to make him both.
He’s obviously not evil – he’s been helping Team Flash in all sorts of ways, and seems to legitimately want to help people. But then again, he’s a total dick, and a total dick who is about to betray Team Flash to save his daughter. I, again, applaud Tom Cavanaugh for his incredible range in playing Harry so differently than he played Wells, while, essentially, playing the same character.
3. Patty is the best (but so are Jay and Caitlin)
This season has done such an incredible job of making Patty Spivot a likable character in short time, that when she cuffed Barry’s leg to the ground, I legitimately gasped. Her character is more developed than many who have been on Arrow for four seasons (*cough* Diggle *cough), and she seems like a perfect match for Barry. It hurts my heart to know that he’ll probably end up with Iris anyway.
Also of note, Jay and Caitlin are adorable, but when Robbie Amell comes crashing through the door in the middle of a kiss, don’t say I didn’t warn you. Those Amells are sneaky.
4. Captain Cold warms up
Both Arrow and The Flash have been attempting to bring their characters that will appear on Legends of Tomorrow more in line with what you’ll be seeing come January. And, while Cold is far from heroic, he’s certainly not as dastardly as the Trickster and Weather Wizard are in this episode.
Cold is the character that seemingly is pointing towards the Rogues getting more in line with their comic counterparts, but his cohorts in this episode aren’t exactly on the same page. It’ll be interesting to see how they play this. Also, where’s my Mirror Master!
5. Enter Wally West
We all saw this coming, but the show handled it remarkably well. A big part of that is because, as we’ve established before, Joe West is the best. Get him to sell me on an idea, and I’ll go along with anything. Let’s hope that the son has more charisma than the daughter, and we will be on the way to the showing adding yet another great character.
Tell me what you loved, and what you think is to come in the second half of the season, in the comments!
