Welcome to the first review of Avenger’s: The Earth’s Mightiest Heroes! We’ll be aiming to give you one after every episode. We’re going to try and do this but we may have to adjust our schedule like the current Bat titles. Dr. Mocle and I will be alternating so it’ll also be nice for you the reader so you can get second opinions and what not.

So without any further stalling click the link to see what I think…

Let’s cut to the chase. I don’t really know what to say about the Avenger’s cartoon. I feel like it has as much upside as downside going for it. I also feel a lot of my issues with the cartoon stem from the voice the makers of the show chose for Iron Man/Tony Stark. I feel like they really tried to get a suave and snarky Robert Downey sound and ended up with something that would have been a great voice choice for a Jack Black cartoon. I mean, am I the only one who hears the voice similarities between the actors?

It’s not all bad though. I think they nailed the Pepper Potts voice. The show also has a plot reminiscent of the initial New Avengers comic that to me is a hugely awesome sized plus. You even get the feel that maybe they might build toward a Secret Invasion style plot. Much like the recently deceased Wolverine and The X-Men this show does a nice job of providing a bit of mystery.

This episode itself was not my favorite to date. I felt the opening two were pretty badical and the minis were brilliantly done as they hooked me into checking the show out. This episode though left me with a sour taste. I just didn’t enjoy the whole Hulk and Thor aspect of the show. I thought their interactions lacked the real power they should have. While the visuals showed big fight I just didn’t feel the impact as a viewer.

Also, did I mention Stark’s voice was a lot like Jack Black’s? Oh…I did? Ok, well did I mention that because of this similarity I am highly distracted and amused when Stark speaks? Amused in a laughing at him not with him type of way mind you. There was a lot of Stark in the episode. So much so that it becomes less amusing and more distracting. By the end of the episode I was dreading any appearance by Stark. It’s just a bad fit for me.

The episode does have a couple things I enjoyed. One of which is the theme song. That jam is contagious. The first time I heard it I thought I wouldn’t really enjoy it. Turns out it pops up in my head at work. I’ll be sitting there and chuckling while I listen. It’s the kind of laughing where you’re laughing with them this go around. It’s not quite on the level of the original TMNT cartoon but it does have that theme that that’s awfully catchy.

Maybe over time I’ll come to also appreciate Stark’s voice…

[..Insert Mark Hamil’s Joker laugh here..]

Ok, so now the other thing I like about the episode is Hank Pym and Wasp. I think they work well off of each and other and I also think their costumes are two of the best on the show. I really enjoy the Giant Man suit’s design. The conversation about being superheroes and calling themselves one was perfectly done.

I don’t want you to walk away from this review thinking you should skip this show though. This is only one episode of all the episodes where I don’t have glowing remarks. Plus, next episode has Captain America’s entrance into the modern times of this cartoons history. After the minis I’m amped to see Captain America unleashed in this fictional world. Especially since he’s going to be fighting Baron Zemo! So stay tuned and check Multiversity Comics out next week for a review of that episode.
