Hi folks! Welcome back to our weekly recap of Archer’s fourth season, on the Multiversity Summer TV Binge 2022. This week’s episode is named “The Honeymooners” and it’s an excuse to see our main characters deal with their relationship, let’s dive right in!
1. Mr. and Mrs. Archer
This time Archer and Lana have to catch a uranium smuggler, who plans to sell to North Korean spies, and apparently, this is the perfect excuse for them to pretend to be newlyweds, Archer, of course, loves the situation and commits too well to his role as a new husband, enjoying the hotel’s amenities, like manicure, the jacuzzi, champagne and steak, all charged to his mother’s Black Card.
On the other hand, this is a great torture for Lana, she “married” a complete idiot who is more interested in enjoying the good life than committing to their mission, after all, the whole world is at risk if the bad guys manage to escape.
2. But she’s not the only one having a bad day
After Archer stole her card, Malory is left humiliated by her “friend” Lucille Austero, Trudy Beakman, and as revenge, takes out the Annual Bonus of Archer and makes Lana agent in command. Meanwhile, Pam mocks Cyril because Lana is in a hotel room with his fake husband Archer, who in reality is her ex, and he starts to become angsty with the possibility of them rekindling their relationship.
So, they decide to go and spy on them, Cyril because of jealousy, Pam because she wants to see them pork, and Cheryl because she owns the hotel and would rather do something else instead of working.
3. Lana’s big, mysterious decision
Lana goes to plant the Geiger counter all by herself, climbing the outer wall of the hotel, à la Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol, there, she is talking to herself, angry for all the ways that Archer makes her crazy, and then, she makes a big decision.
It is never revealed, but it might imply that she is thinking on marrying Cyril or something like that. At the end she takes back that idea, but this is another seed of what will eventually be the biggest choice of her life, which will be revealed at the season finale.
Then, Archer realizes that his Annual Bonus is practically nonexistent, and climbs all the way to the top of where Lana is to compare their money; there, he gets even angrier when they discover that Lana has an excellent bonus and start discussing about who deserves it the most, when the answer is obvious: nobody, they have failed in practically every mission.
4. A total farce
When they finally enter their room again, Archer is angry and goes to find someone to punch, which might ruin their mission, but in their fight, they accidentally run into a spy in the elevator and end up caught by the North Koreans and end up tied.
Thankfully, Cyril is there and attempts to save Lana, and Archer manages to escape from his handcuffs thanks to all of his… ahem, experience with them. Together they manage to kill the spies, but they left a complete mess in the room and forgot to catch the seller.
5. Nobody wins
So, the hotel room is a disaster and Malory has a big debt to pay despite Cheryl, the owner of the hotel, working for her, because she falsely argues that she has to answer to the board of directors; Lana is dismissed from her totally fake “agent in command” position and nobody gets a Bonus.
At the end of the episode the “madman” who planned to sell the uranium appears in the room, it turns out that all this time it was Krieger, who, disappointed, just gives permission to his radiated Pigly III to eat the dead bodies, so at least that counts as getting rid of the evidence, right?
Joke of the Week:
Malory: Damn, I’m sure my card was in here.
Trudy Beekman: Malory, please, allow me.
Malory: No no no, I’m…
Trudy Beekman: Embarrassing yourself, dear.
And that’s it for this episode, it worked as an “in your face” exploration of their will they won’t they relationship that Archer and Lana have, I mean we are currently in season 13 and they still have that vibe!
