Hi folks! Welcome back to our weekly recap of Archer’s fourth season, on the Multiversity Summer TV Binge 2022. This week’s episode is named “The Wind Cries Mary” and in this one, Archer has a lover, but this time it’s not a girl. Let’s dive right in!

1. Peer Reviews

The episode begins with a meeting where Malory is listing the topics, the rest of the team is angry that they don’t have a meeting room to rest and eat, but the one they had was a pigsty, it even had a dead piglet. But that is not the concern of the boss, so she moves on to item 6, it’s the time for the peer reviews and everyone has to do one… well, everyone except for Mallory, who doesn’t have a peer in the building.

The only person that is happy with it is Pam, because she is Human Resources, it’s literally her job, and Cyril because he thinks it’s important for Pam, and also because he gets to grade Lana. But everyone who has had to do a peer review know that it’s one of the worst ways to evaluate performance in a company, its either a test that nobody cares about, or a chance to talk dirty about a coworker, but it’s not an objective way of reviewing employees.

2. Lucas Troy is dead

Lucas Troy was the best (and only) friend of Archer, he was as annoying as his mate and everybody hated him, even worse, he abandoned ISIS and went to work for ODIN, so everyone is happy that he is dead, in his last mission he betrayed his team and stole money and uranium, but Archer doesn’t believe that, he was “too awesome” to die like that, by the way, he seemed to be more than a friend to Archer, as the rest of the team recalls, they relationship bordered the homoerotic.

And the truth is, he faked his dead, and Archer is sure that he has a profound reason, like there’s a mole, or that the entire ODIN is compromised, so, he properly fills every document needed and the “Gun Librarian” gives him everything that he asked for.

3. Twin Oaks B&B

When Archer arrives, he is ready to take on the world for his buddy, but he has other plans, he starts talking about the old building that they are in, he imagines a world where he and Archer have a B&B where they live together.

Meanwhile, Archer is more concerned about what he feels is an imminent threat, and hasn’t understood: Troy is in love with him, as he puts it, he is not gay for other men, but he is definitely gay for Archer, and he’s willing to kill as many people as needed to be with his man.

4. Pumpkin hunting season

Lana discovers Archer’s secret mission and goes after him, after al Lucas might be a national risk, and of course, Cyril tags along, not because he is needed but because he has to do his Peer Review.

Of course, Cyril is not trained in spy stuff and that ineptness becomes an immediate problem, as I said earlier, Troy is willing to kill everyone who messes up with his plan, and that means that Lana and “the nerdy accountant” have to die, and Cyril is not much help when he is wearing orange “to avoid accidental bullets.”

5. Sterling Archer-Troy

After being drugged for a couple of minutes, Archer wakes up and has to save his coworkers (at this point, ‘friends’ is a stretch). Meanwhile, Troy keeps fantasizing about his life with Archer and goes hunting.

At the end, Lana uses her intelligence (and big hands) to put a trap for Lucas, who is about to die crushed by a giant tree, but first, he has to make one last confession, it is implied that he once raped Archer, who leaves with the team with one of the most iconic faces in the whole show, the shock in everybody’s face is both hilarious and sad, what Archer thought was a honest friendship, ended up in a sick unrequited love relationship.

Joke of the week:

Krieger, after selling ISIS’ guns: “Oh, and let me know if you need a gallon of irradiated ants.”

And that’s it for this episode, overall, a great episode big on innuendos and double entendres, that’s what I love about this show, it works great as an animated series, but it’s also full of narrative complexity in its script.
