Hi folks! Welcome back to our weekly recap of Archer’s fourth season, on the Multiversity Summer TV Binge 2022. This week’s episode is named “Viscous Coupling,” the title refers to a lot of… well, couplings but let’s dive deeper into that stuff.
1. Nobody wants to go out with Sterling
It’s Friday and Archer wants to go out with his friends… the only problem is that he doesn’t have any friends, so he asks his coworkers to go out. First, he asks Pam and Cheryl, but they have a date with Firefighters, and it seems that they had a good time because the next week Carol shows up with bruises in her neck and more unhinged than usual with her opposite day game.
Archer asks Malory but she has a date with Ron, Krieger is having a “mushi” with his holographic girlfriend, finally, Archer asks Lana, who responds only with yesses, but Archer discovers that that’s because she is having sex with Cyril again.
2. He has matured
He then questions Lana’s choice, and she reveals that she has had fourteen months without sex, so Archer offers his “services” to Lana, as he thinks that he’s better than Cyril, and argues that he has matured, after all, his possible father died, he had cancer, and he has a hearing impairment.
I mean, Archer still likes to torture his butler, and is an overconfident asshole, but at least he has grown since the first season, maybe he has the chance to prove himself and get back Lana, well, that’s until he receives a call and runs to his home, because…
3. Katya’s back!
And she’s concerned because her “former” lover, Barry is gone, and she pretends that she doesn’t have any idea of where he is. Archer confesses that Barry is trapped in the Space Station, and he is willing to help bring him back, after all, he has a plan to get Katya Back.
He asks Krieger for help, and at first, he questions Archer’s idea of bringing Barry back to earth, but Sterling puts a simple idea in his mind: Two cyborgs, Gillette and Barry, fighting to death, and that’s just enough to convince Krieger.
4. Opposite day
Inadvertently helping Archer with his plan to bring back Barry is the rest of the team, Cheryl is in charge of keeping Lana and Malory trapped, but she’s having an opposite day and it makes the communication rather hard.
Krieger is having a kind of opposite day too, helping an enemy and having a blast, but sometimes Barry is terrifying, for example when he refers to the multiple ways in which he killed his prisoners in the space station.
5. Fisherman’s Wife and that stupid AV stuff
The other one helping Archer is Pam, she shoots tranquilizers to Ray and Cyril and recorded them in some kind of porno movie including an octopus (a weirdly familiar thing), and now she’s helps editing a tape “incriminating” Barry of cheating on Katya.
At the end, Barry manages to come back, and Katya disappears, leaving Archer alone again. Turns out that she deliberately manipulated him to bring back her cyborg boyfriend and now she is a threat to the agency, because she’s the head of the KGB now.
Laugh of the week:
Archer: Lana, that’s the third saddest thing I’ve heard today… Pam told me about a little girl who drowned trying to save a puppy.
Lana: Jesus, what was the second saddest?
Archer: The puppy drowned too.
And that’s it for this week, it’s always funny to see Archer talking about what he has accomplished in his life, only to immediately contradict himself with a dumb misadventure.
