Back at it again in a galaxy far, far away! After last week getting the show back on track with a Hera-centric episode, here we find Zeb and Agent Kallus forced to stick together to survive while stranded on a moon of Geonosis. Will these bitter enemies tear each other apart or will they find the strength to survive together?
Let’s find out as we dive into our Five Thoughts on Star Wars: Rebels‘ “The Honorable Ones”!
1. Enemy Mine
This was an amazing episode, I’m just going to lay it out there. I loved the setup for this whole thing. I’ve mentioned before how much I love Agent Kallus as a character and his history with Zeb and I was really beginning to miss him as he hadn’t shown up in a few episodes, there. Thankfully, he’s back in full force here and we’re getting to see a whole other side to him and Zeb.
I loved seeing Zeb’s honour being such a huge part of his character here. In the past, we’ve seen him play up the very pragmatic, only out for himself character he’s built for himself as part of the Ghost crew, but seeing him slip into his old ways when confronted with a situation where he could easily kill a helpless Kallus gave him an all new dimension. I’m so glad this season has developed Zeb the way it has.
2. Everyone Gets Two
I noticed something this episode: the show’s supporting cast (ie the members of the Ghost crew who aren’t Kanan and Ezra) have been getting two episodes each to really focus on their development. Sabine got “Blood Sisters” and “The Protector Of Concord Dawn”. Hera got “Wings Of The Master” and “Homecoming” and now Zeb’s had “Legends Of The Lasat”.
I think this season has done a pretty good job, overall, of balancing episodes between story-focused ones and ones where side characters have gotten more development. This was an excellent Zeb-centric episode and last week was an excellent Hera-centric episode and now I can’t wait for the show to focus back on the main story leading up to the finale.
3. #WhatHappenedOnGeonosis?
So this episode was one of those episodes where it hints at adding something huge to the Star Wars canon, but just skirts past it.
So something happened on Geonosis after Revenge Of The Sith where they begun construction of the first Death Star and all the Geonosians where killed. Now, I’m assuming this was when production of the Death Star was moved to Sentinel Base as per the ‘Tarkin’ novel? Perhaps the Empire killed all the Geonosians in order to stop them from talking about the Death Star?
Or… this is all elaborate foreshadowing for Rogue One? Could be…
4. Droid Vs. Droid
Forget Batman v. Superman. Forget Iron Man v. Captain America. Forget Dardevil v. Punisher.
This is where it’s at. Chopper v. Imperial Astromech. Wrestlemania 2016.
Match of the year.
5. Kallus’ Redemption?
Those last few shots were very interesting to me. They seem to directly parallel the warm welcome Zeb experienced with the rest of the crew showing just how cold and detached the Empire is. Maybe we’re seeing Kallus have second thoughts about his place in the Empire? He’s spent so long hunting the rebels that finally being confronted by their decency as people may shake his faith in the Emperor.
Is this the first stage in the rebels redeeming Kallus Vegeta-style? Will Kallus turn against the Empire or will this fuel his zealotry even more? Only time will tell.
