Hello Multiversity readers, and welcome back to Matheson, where the Locke family is dealing with the aftermath of Frederick Gideon and his two echoes breaking into the home. No one is quite sure who they are or how they got it, but Kinsey and Bode know they need to find a new place for the keys. Let’s not waste more time and jump right into episode three, “Five Minutes Past.”

1. Awkward Memorial
After searching the Well House for clues on who bent the metal bars on the window, Kinsey looks down the well and sees Eden’s dead body. Seeing Eden’s corpse didn’t seem right to Kinsey, so she convinces the Savini’s to help her bring the body up to pay their respects. It’s a pretty awkward scene because they put her in a wheelbarrow, and after each one of them says something nice about her before a demon possesses her, Kinsey starts to sing. It takes a little too long for the others to jump in, and it just feels awkward for the audience because after finding out she was possessed last season, they never considered her a person again. Thus, this whole funeral for a friend thing feels pretty forced. Then it ultimately takes a different turn when they throw her body off the cliffs of Matheson.

2. Smash and Grabs
Frederick Gideon and his two lackeys are doing some old-school B&Es around Matheson. They’re working on stealing clothes and changing up their appearances so that they can blend in with the town. In this episode, we don’t get a chance to see them interact with the Lockes; it’s more of just a status update for them. However, they have a brutal scene in a library when they get caught stealing a knife from a historical display. We don’t get a bloody or gory scene, just more of a splash of blood as he stabs him. This kill shows how ruthless Gideon can be and doesn’t just rely on magic, and he is also a force to be reckoned with physically and probably outmatch any of the Lockes.

3. Tough Promises
Tyler’s reason for staying in Matheson instead of returning to his construction job in another state is because he worries about his family after seeing Gideon and his lackeys break into the house. However, he begins questioning it when he finds out that Kinsey lied about calling the police and filing a report. The truth is she wouldn’t call the cops because she knew they were some demons searching for the keys. Kinsey could try and explain it to Tyler in hopes it would trigger his memories, but she doesn’t want to break his wishes of forgetting everything magical. It’s a tough decision for Kinsey to make because of their strong bond before he left, but she understands the pain he doesn’t want to deal with yet.

4. Painful Memories
In an attempt to let Bode see his dad, Nina takes Bode into her memories using the Head Key but quickly takes him out when she begins to see the memories differently than what she initially believed happened. It seems that Nina never had a drink that wasn’t arm lengths away and would negatively affect them in some way, shape, or form. In one memory, she not only crushes Kinsey’s gingerbread house but ends up spilling some of her alcoholic beverage on Kinsey. While she is now sober, she is still beating herself up for the destruction her drinking caused to the family. Kinsey continues to be the strong one this season by helping her mom by reassuring her that while those memories might be a little bad, it’s okay because of the state she is in now. It becomes a moment of reflection for Nina to understand that she is still a work in progress, and there is still time for her to be the mom she always wanted to be for her children.

5. Never Listens
Bode continues his reign as the catalyst for the things that can go wrong while misusing the keys. Bode finds the Time Shift Key, and despite the warning from his Uncle Duncan, he uses it to try and see his father again. However, he doesn’t put the correct date and instead goes back to a more recent time when Dodge and Eden were fighting the kids at Key House. Once again, Uncle Duncan is there, being held captive and warning Bode to run away, but too late as Dodge goes after him and tags along back to the current time. Now that the original antagonist is back in the picture, it’s only a matter of time before Dodge either teams up with Gideon or helps the Locke kids take him down. This is definitely one of those moments that will cause a lot of stress and conflict between Bode and his family, not only because of the force of evil they’ve defeated only once before but also because he caused it.
