Five Thoughts On Locke and Key’s “Siege”

Hello Multiversity readers, we’re a little past the halfway point of the final season of Locke and Key. Dodge is on the verge of getting found out inside of Bode’s body, and who knows what kind of crazy shenanigans that’ll bring. So let’s not waste more time and get into “Siege.”

1. Ghost Clues
This episode picks up right after the last one, and Nina is still scrambling to find answers to why Dodge’s lifeless body is underneath Bode’s bed. The quick response from Dodge is that she tagged along when Bode used the Timeshift key, but it doesn’t have too much weight with Nina. Thankfully she’s smartened up over the last couple of seasons and tells Tyler and Kinsey. Once they look at it, Kinsey remembers seeing the Ghost Key with Bode and immediately puts it together. They bide their time with Dodge until they can get the Lock Key to trap her and try to switch the bodies back, but it may be too late. They cannot open the door for the Ghost Key because Gideon has come full force to lock them in the house. This was one of those things that could have quickly gone a little longer than it should have, so it’s good for the family to be on the same page and shut it down quickly. Especially given that Tyler has his memories back and can be an asset again.

2. Double-Cross
In what seemed like a quick turn after being caught by The Lockes, Dodge says that she is willing to work with them against Gideon. The main reasoning is that Gideon wants to destroy this world and use it as a bridge for the demon world he came from. Dodge appears to be a fan of this world and was planning on using the Alpha Key to get rid of Gideon and live on with her life. Everyone, including the audience, feels like it’s just a trick to survive another day, but after being locked in and unable to get Bode back, they have no choice. The kids don’t want to give her any of the keys for weapons, but they know if they don’t, Bode’s body could be the cost, and they would never get their brother back. This just turns into another case of the enemy of my enemy is my friend.

3. No More Waiting
As I’ve mentioned, Gideon decides to finally stop waiting and go for the jugular with The Lockes. He uses his military strategy experience to keep them trapped inside their home with only one way out. The Lockes arm themselves with the Lock Key, the Music Box, and Wing Key. They are some of the most offensive keys they have in their arsenal but still not enough to go up against Gideon and his lackeys. It never made sense to me why he waited when he had the physical power to face off against them this whole time. Hell, if he’d gone at them just like this at the reception, he’d probably have still won. But a point for The Lockes is that back then, Bode was actually in his own body and would have pulled a more sneaky move to help them get out of the situation. Overall it’s the best fight they’ve had this season and just in time for Tyler to finally be locked in fully.

4. No Choice
Gideon overpowers The Lockes by busting out of the Lock Key, breaking the Music Box, and straight shooting Dodge’s wings. That last one is pretty ruthless. Gideon uses Dodge/Bode as leverage to get the keys he needs, and there’s nothing they can do but give them to him. They all know that if anything happens to Bode’s body, with or without Dodge in him, it’ll be all bad. It’s a dark moment for the family, and in the show, that feels like there’s no coming back. Gideon is getting his portal to the other side, and it’s not looking good.

5. The Hour Glass
When The Lockes find out about Dodge and the Timeshift Key, they check out what the time machine aspect looks like and notice a giant hourglass. They don’t get a hold of Duncan initially but end up getting a voicemail from him during the fight that says it’s essentially a fail-safe. Anything that comes back from a trip that doesn’t belong will disappear to where it belongs. This means that Dodge/Bode will end up gone, so they have to switch before the time ends. However, in between Gideon getting the keys and trying to use the Alpha Key to stop him, they run out of time. With Gideon in possession of all the keys he needs and Dodge/Bode gone, The Lockes have more problems than they know what to do with.
