Hello Multiversity readers, and welcome to coverage for the latest season of Netflix’s Locke & Key. Two months have passed since the kids took out Dodge, and things are seemingly quiet. Tyler Locke has been on the road for the last couple of months, and the rest of his family had to keep finding more keys. So let’s not waste more time and start with “The Snow Globe.”

1. Ellie Is Back
After spending a season equivalent in the dark black hole zone, Ellie Whedon is back in town. While she is happy to be reunited with her son and back in the town she grew up with, she has to deal with the fake lie cover-up to where she was this whole time. The lie itself is she was found wandering around Pittsburgh with no memory of her name. I think there could have been a better way of explaining her disappearance but without leading the police on a wild goose chase, and nobody past the age of 18 being able to know about magic, it’s the best they can do. For the audience, we can also see the toll it’s taking on her when she gets a little irritated by Rufus’ questioning about the keys and what happened to her in the black hole.

2. Nina’s Memory
Nina Locke is coming in ready for the main character role this season. Yes, she has been a part of the show from the jump, but before, she was more of the not-knowing parent in the way. This season Nina gets to remember the magic and have her memories of it restored. It’s an exciting moment for her because she feels like she can reconnect with her kids, but they can see she might get in the way again due to her excitement. It’ll be something for the audience to keep an eye on because it’s also revealed that since she married into the Locke family, demons can take the keys from her with no repercussions.

3. Freezer Key
Nina finds a snow globe in the house and thinks it could be magic related. Bode and Kinsey are more skeptical, given that she’s been finding random things around the house during the last couple of months and thinking the same thing. However, she ends up right after Bode finds a key in the freezer. This key takes the people surrounding it into The Locke House inside the snow globe, and two demon creatures escape during this discovery. Nina had tried to fight them off, but they overpowered her and trapped Bode inside of the snow globe to freeze. Once Kinsey figures out what’s happening, they devise a game plan for the demon sisters. We get a nice magic battle scene when Kinsey uses the belt key and Nina with the crazy mirror key, which is also a little nod to season one when she got trapped in it. Nina proves she can be an asset for fighting demons, and Kinsey is learning to trust her during crucial moments.

4. Confirmed Big Bad
The big bad for this season is Captain Frederick Gideon. Eden lets him out of the black hole at the end of the last season in hopes of using him as muscle for her conquest. However, it doesn’t go as planned, and he kills her. This episode also reveals that he has a strong sense of power in the demon world, as the two sisters that were released go right to him and offer to do his bidding. His quest is to obtain all the keys that the Locke’s have and reopen the void. The audience has only seen flashbacks of this man turned demon from the last season, so it’s going to be dangerous to catch a ruthless demon reacclimate with modern technology tools.

5. Tyler’s M.I.A.
Now last we’d seen of Tyler Locke was when he decided to leave for the summer with the plan of losing all his memories of magic. It’s shown that he purposely ignored all communication with his family other than liking text messages when it was called for. Towards the end of the episode, we’re shown Tyler working construction and witnessing his attempt at a new life. He’s wrestling with the thought of returning for his uncle’s wedding but doesn’t think it would be good for him. Because he’s been separated from his siblings, both sides of the coin are not doing well. Kinsey and Bode even send sad selfies to him in hopes of a “lol,” but he decides to keep away and suffer in silence. Maybe he’ll get to come back to the house as the cavalry when things start to get crazy, and we’ll just have to wait and see.
