Welcome back to Eternia! After two-and-a-half years, we get to see a little bit more of what Kevin Smith and company had to offer in Masters of the Universe: Revelation now with a second series called Revolution. So let´s start talking about it right away.
1. This is an Unexpected Comeback, Right?
Revelation was praised by critics and many fans (like me!), but it was also “panned” by adult men with very fragile masculinity, who subjected it to review bombing, and I honestly thought that the creative team would celebrate that their little show came out and be glad to be out of the controversy, so I was very surprised (and happy!) when they announced this sequel.
I do can say that it was somewhat affected by the bad publicity, it seems that this season will only be five episodes and neither Mattel nor Kevin Smith or Netflix have given any indication that it will continue in some form, and the publicity for this new season was very scarce, I knew it was coming, but I got the official release date just around two weeks ago!
Anyways, I’m happy to see these characters again, and I will enjoy whatever I get.
2. A Short Trip to Subternia
There’s nothing like an action-packed beginning: here, Prince Adam and Orko travel to the underworld to claim back the souls of Clamp-Champ and Fisto, but Scare Glow won’t let go of their souls so easy, and the whole team is called to fight.
Andra the new Man-At-Arms, Buzz Off, Snout Spout, Rio Blast, Ram Man all arrive to fight – and I just love listing that many ridiculous names! – and even the king comes to fight using what I can only describe as a Hulkbuster. At the end they easily win, but the victory is sour…
3. The King is Dying
And he has known for weeks, neither science nor magic can save him, so he chooses to spend his remaining days making peace with his son, whom he was estranged from for many years, enjoying the company of his wife, and going on one last mission to save the souls of his warriors.
Adam is burdened with the death of his father, but he also has another weight with his passing, as he is the new ruler, so he will have to be a proper king. But does that means leaving behind his role of protector of Eternia as He-Man?
4. Teela Has a Mission
Last time, Evil-Lyn destroyed Preternia, and without this universe’s heaven, the souls of dead warriors, King Randor, and the original Sorceress herself are bound to Eternia, so the new wielder of the magic of Grayskull has given herself the mission of restoring that final resting place.
Her mother explains to her, that despite all their advancements and her ability with magic, she is only using the magic of Zoar, and she needs the magic of the three gods that created Eternia, including Ka and Hav’Ok, so now she will go on a mission to bring together the three magics and restore Preternia.
5. More Bad Guys than Ever
This is a new beginning, a new season that even includes a change in name, and for a Revolution to start, the stakes have to be even bigger than before, and that means more villains.
Skeletor is now Skeletek: once a faithful user of magic, he is now part of a tech-cult, brainwashed into the alleged gains of technology (hey, just like fans of a certain billionaire!), and dominated by the Motherboard, who is herself controlled by Hordak, and if that wasn’t complicated enough, a mysterious person appears at King Randor’s eulogy… his lost brother Keldor!
Things are getting complicated for a newly orphaned Adam, he has to choose between being king or being hero, but the bad guys won’t stop and wait until he’s ready. Overall, this episode, has all I need from a He-Man cartoon, action, stakes, and little hints of love. Thank you for reading! See you next week!
