Welcome back, Multiversity readers, to another recap for Netflix’s Sweet Tooth! Last time we’d checked on Gus, he was dealing with the kids being upset with him about lying and Dr. Singh using the newfound materials from Fort Smith to get closer to a possible cure. So let’s jump right into it.

1. Dinner with the Abbot’s
General Abbot returns to The Preserve and isn’t happy with his brother Johnny who has made some serious errors, in his opinion, regarding moving Rani Singh to a better “room” and finding out about Aimee and Jepperd breaking in. Before he reacts, he decides to visit Dr. Singh and see the progress in the lab, only to get some great news that a cure has been found! Dr. Singh has used Peter, AKA the Crocodile-hybrid child from the previous episode, to develop the answer to the sickness. Another short-lived victory for Dr. Singh is after he finds a cure, General Abbott immediately takes it and forces the Singhs to have dinner with him. It’s a very awkward dinner that is a huge flex for General Abbot and his power over The Preserve, his soldiers, and Dr. Singh. Rani can see how evil this man truly is, but the doctor is making excuse after excuse for him by saying that the general was the final push he needed even to develop the cure. Dr. Singh falls deeper into the grave he dug himself, and his wife can only watch as the man she loves fades away.

2. Bootcamp
Becky and Jordan are getting put through the wringer trying to join The Last Men. It was a surprise when I saw they were actually testing people rather than just arming the willing participants for the army, but in hindsight, it does make sense to test those that may be trying to sneak inside. What caught me off guard, but not surprisingly, was how much of a badass Becky showed up compared to Jordan and the other participants. She excelled in the obstacle course runs and the target practice with the bow and arrow. Her trainer was surprised, but with a quick look back at season one and being the leader of the Animal Army, it makes sense that she had that killer instinct still inside of her. She shows the audience plenty of reminders that her goal is to reunite with Gus.

3. Air Lords
The group of mercenaries that Aimee was trying to get into contact with finally came through. They’re a decent-sized group with access to a base filled with planes and the expertise to get to the children, hopefully. Aimee is trying her best to navigate the semi-tense mission planning. Still, it becomes increasingly tricky as Jepperd is constantly ragged on and challenged by one of the soldiers. The soldier continuously nags at Jepperd by reminding him of the past, and it finally comes to a clash when the guy calls the hybrid children freaks. It’s one of those friends-of-a-friend types of situations where they’re being forced to work together but otherwise would probably be at each other’s throats at a moment’s notice. Aimee and Jepperd need the group, so they eventually find some middle-ground, but it’s certainly not easy.

4. Shawshank
While Gus is being iced out from the other children after lying about one of the other children being killed, he does seem to have one person on his side, Bobby. This works out perfectly because the plies Gus stole from Fort Smith were the tool needed to cut off Bobby’s electronic collar so he could travel through the pipes. Once he escapes through the pipes, the other kids immediately get in Gus’ face because if he is the reason they lose another “sibling,” he will be in the doghouse.

Near the end of the episode, the guards burst through their cage because they saw his stuffed animal dog and became suspicious of them escaping. They threaten all the children, and one of them shows off his tooth from the crocodile-hybrid child Gus had bonded with at Fort Smith. At that moment, Gus knew Dr. Singh had also betrayed him and used his horns to stab one of the guards and escape through The Preserve. As good-intentioned as it may have been, it goes back to his naivety, and he’s quickly running from the many guards and eventually ends up right in front of General Abbot. Bobby gets through to a storm drain outside of The Preserve, and now we have to wait to see if he’ll reach Aimee or anyone else who could help.

5. Trust Issues
After the spat between Jepperd and one of the soldiers, Aimee pulls him to the side and gives him a hoorah speech about trusting one another. Aimee mentions that The Air Lords are more off than her usual tactics but that if they work with them, they’ll get the kids. She also says that at the end of the day, it’s about the two of them and protecting the children. After that, Jepperd decides to tell her the truth about his previous involvement with The Last Men and how he used to be the “hybrid catcher,” It still haunts him, but he’s trying to make amends. However, immediately after this admission, Aimee freaks out and walks away from the conversation. It was a shock to not only Jepperd but to the audience because she opened the door for his confession and then used it against him. Even as far as kicking him out of the mission to save the kids and saying she’ll take better care of Gus than he ever could. Jepperd being who he is, wouldn’t just take no for an answer, so he snagged a car from their base and headed to The Preserve.
