Hi folks! Welcome back to our weekly recap of The Boys. This week’s episode is named “Get Some” and we continue to meet the characters and the main conflict against the supes. Let’s dive right in!

1. Mother’s Milk

In this episode we are introduced to the penultimate member of The Boys, Mother Milk, a good man that works on a prison and takes good care of the men he guards. He agrees to work again with the team after Butcher tells him that they killed Translucent and that Frenchie is off the team.

Mother’s Milk is somewhat emasculated, as shown in the phone call he has with his girlfriend, which makes everyone laughs, even Hughie. But he is also a very calm and analytic man, he managed to prevent an accident when Hughie bumps into A-Train and he is the one who keeps the thread of the mission after Frenchie ends up empty handed.

2. Superheroes love the empowerment

Annie goes to talk with Stillwell, expecting to be scolded for her actions un the last episode, but she discovers that the victim of the gang-rape came forward and everyone is happy with her. Then, they present her a new uniform, which will tell the story of how she has evolved after being a country-girl, now that she is in the big city.

Turns out the new suit is a very showing swimsuit, with the excuse that now she is empowered and she doesn’t mind looking sexy, because she decides to be so. This of course is not what empowering means but ultimately she is forced to use it.

Starlight feels more disappointed every time, and it seems that the only good person in the whole city is Hughie, I mean, she doesn’t know that he is on a revenge mission and that he is helping Frenchie escape, but at least he seems to enjoy her company, will their relationship keep glowing? (Pun intended, also, those who read the book know that they end up together).

3. Jealous of a baby

What’s weird of the show is that, although it’s called The Boys, the superheroes get the same screen time than the titular characters, this is not a bad thing at all, it’s a great exploration of supers in this era.

In this episode, Homelander is shown to be very annoyed and jealous of Stillwell’s baby, which is ridiculous for a god, but he is THAT petty. Then Vought send him on a mission with Queen Maeve in which he murders the gunman without even letting him talk. Finally, at the race, he murmurs “fucking cocksuckers” to the fans.

As we have been discussing, this guy is absolutely unattached to the reality, disconnected of his humanity and it is scary to see him, knowing what he is capable of, we’ll talk a little bit more about it later.

4. A-Train/V-Compound

The main plot of this episode revolves around the clue Translucent left to The Boys, there’s something called Compound-V and A-Train was using it when he killed Robin. The team enters the apartment of Popclaw, a super-supermodel (and pornstar?) to spy on them.

We get to explore a little bit about the relationship between the two supers and it is revealed that they both use V-Compound, which acts not only as a power enhancer but as some kind of psychotropic drug.

After A-Train wins and tells the world he’s single, Popclaw decides to use his stash of V and has sex with her renter, only to absolutely destroy his head while she receives oral sex, off devastating, the team sees this as an opportunity to blackmail her, but Hughie is concerned about the lack of care about other individuals, but, hey, if you wanna kill superheroes, a couple of eggs are gonna break

5. How to get rid of a superbody? You don’t, you start a war

When they clean the mess Hughie made killing Translucent, Frenchie asks the Butcher what he is going to do to get rid of the body, it is impossible to get rid of it, but he has a plan. And his fucking plan is to start a war.

The only time on the episode where Homelander seemed disturbed, was when Butcher was staring at him, in a gorgeous shot (shot-out to DP Jeremy Benning, seriously, that was a beautiful scene), where butcher seemed to be presenting to him to his enemy. And lastly, Homelander looked amused, motivated, when Deep discovers the trunk with the remainings of Translucent, and the writing “Coming for you”, Butcher is deliberately starting a war, and the team might be on risk.

BONUS: There’s a little bit of exploration of paternity issues, Hughie has a fight with his dad before leaving, and Frenchie tells him that his father tried to kill him with a Hello Kitty duvet, and this certainly is an interesting theme, and I hope it keeps being explored.

And that’s it for this episode, overall, it was an interesting take on sports and drug enhancing, while also being an introduction to the war Butcher is pushing for.
