Hi folks! Welcome back to our weekly recap of The Boys. This week’s episode is named “The Bloody Doors Off” and everyone is making plans, Maeve has an idea, the leader of the cult now has two prominent supers, The Boys are trying to unmask Stormfront and she comes clean to Homelander, I didn’t even talk about Love Sausage! Let’s dive right in.

1. Alastair

When Deep visited Maeve on the set of the movie, he came by A-Train and offered help from “him”, and who is that him? Well, it is Alastair Adana, who was briefly introduced on last episode, the three of them have a meal and then Deep begins insulting A-Train. But, after attempting to leave, Alastair reveals what he knows about the speedster, mainly that they are going to replace him and that he had a heart attack.

These are tactics of any cult but they are particularly resemblant of the ones of the Scientology, promises of getting fame back and blackmail. So, on top of fighting unhinged and racist superheroes, The Boys are another problem to solve.

Frankly, we have only two episodes left on the season, so, it seems unlikely to me that they are going to end with the cult by the season finale, they didn’t even know about them! So, I’m betting this is going to be a problem for the third season.

2. Boy, those GoPro sure come in handy

And what was Deep doing on the set of #DawnOfTheSeven? Just as we last saw them, Maeve and him are teaming up for something, and that something is finding the black box from the airplane Homelander allowed to fall, back in the fourth episode of the first season.

Maeve’s ex-turned-girlfriend, Elena discovers the camera Deep retrieved, and discovers the truth, not only Homelander left the passengers die, Maeve did absolutely nothing to prevent that, and I get it that she was terrified of an all-powerful super, but she has blame too, and it seems that she either doesn’t see it or doesn’t care because she is willing to reveal that video to the world and it is going to only get worse from there. (This ties up with the last point.)

3. Sage Grove

Meanwhile, on the main plot of this episode, The Boys get information from Annie that Stormfront is visiting a place called Sage Grove, so they all go investigate, while Frenchie, M.M. and Kimiko go investigate, Butcher, Annie and Hughie wait outside.

Anne and Butcher have an hostile attitude towards each other, and when Hughie is injured they have to go to an hospital, but Annie is forced to kill a man to get his car, and instead of being affected by it, she reveals that she got mostly annoyed, which earns Butcher’s respect. So, although she is still a dangerous supe, maybe Annie is a person he can trust.

4. Lamplighter

Inside Sage Grove, the team discover that this is not a psychiatric hospital, instead, they are experimenting with Compound V, and Lamplighter, the guy that killed Lt. Mallory’s grandchildren is working there, burning patients.

This affects heavily Frenchie, from whom we saw flashbacks, and they have the inevitable confrontation, but Lamplighter burns down the door of a very powerful super and they are forced to work together to escape every super.

Lamplighter reveals that he accidentally burned the kids because he was trying to kill Mallory, and Frenchie, that was supposed to follow him to prevent retaliation, left briefly his post to try to save a friend that had OD’d, and he saved him that time, but died months later.

So, both men had demons, both have been torturing themselves and both were doing stuff to repair the mistake, Frenchie trying to fix Kimiko and Lamplighter surrendering to Mallory, which spares his life despite the intense hatred she has for him, astounding acting by Laila Robins, by the way. So, may we have a new member of The Boys?

5. 1919

While Maeve is aiming to expose Homelander as the sociopath that he is, this guy is flying around doing sociopathic things, for example, he killed a simple robber while getting aroused by Stormfront.

Apparently, Stormfront seems to substitute his obsession with Stillwell and milk, and he even attempts to give her flowers, but she made him wait for too long and now he is angry, and I thought that for the first time in the show she seemed scared.

But not because she might die, in reality she was terrified of losing his Aryan boy, she revealed to Homelander that she is a hundred years old and she was married to Vought himself, so, not only she was racist, not only she seemed to be a neo-nazi, in reality she was a literal Nazi! And she has a plan.

So, whatever Maeve is trying to do, is not going to be very effective, yes she might be able to take of the mask of heroism, but once the façade is down, I bet Stormfront and Homelander are only going to feel liberated.

And that’s it for this episode, this might be my favorite so far, and I’m counting the one where they exploded a whale, it had a great action piece and every piece of the board was moved strategically to set up the last two episodes of the season.
