Hi folks! Welcome back to our weekly recap of The Boys. This week’s episode is named “We Gotta Go Now” and I’m seriously worried about Stormfront, never trust a white supremacist! Let’s dive right in.
1. Face Off
Frenchie and Kimiko had two scenes in this episode, first, Kimiko literally pulls the face off a Russian guy and kills mobsters, then, after following her to a church, Frenchie discovers that she is working for the Albanian mafia and confronts her warning her that doing hit jobs take a toll on her soul.
Kimiko reacts, and tells him (with her sing-language) that she feels guilty of her brother’s death but Frenchie doesn’t understand and he complaints that he has tried to learn her language but she is not willing to teach him.
Last week I said that I believed that Frenchie and Kimiko had the best relationship, but I didn’t say it was the happiest, here we are shown how broken they are, he seems irremediably in love and she just keeps being angry and feeling guilty, hopefully with all their feelings exposed, they can work on repairing their bond.
2. Mae-bi
I feel like Maeve’s story became the saddest one this week, she had been hiding her bisexuality for around a decade, and now that she got violently out of the closet by Homelander, her storyline in the newest movie involves a relationship with a woman.
And not only that, but Vought’s PR team are planning to market her as a gay woman in a “heteronormalized” gay relationship, with Elena wearing “man-adjacent” clothes and labeling Maeve as gay instead of bi because it is easier to the public.
So, now they are forced to be on a relationship, not because they love each other, not even because they are going to monetize it, they are doing this because Homelander is torturing Maeve and otherwise he could kill Elena.
Speaking of PR, the cult finally announced that Deep is married, and although he appeared briefly on the episode, Maeve visits him offering a “woman’s voice” that could “forgive” him, and maybe with her support he might be able to come back to the Seven.
3. Homelander tries to do damage control (and fails)
Poor Ashley, she is so terrified of Homelander that she is losing locks of hair. This time she had to show the guy a video of a terrorist that he killed, but he also killed a teenage boy, so, as usual, Vought is planning a damage control strategy, and as usual, Homelander does whatever the fuck he pleases.
He goes to a protest and tries to defend his mistake, but the people are angry and they are at their limit of bullshit, so, after he fails and has a breakdown, he goes to Stormfront, who show him all the stuff that the Facebook can offer: memes and disinformation are way better for engagement than facts and communication. And this happens in real life too, a couple of days ago I saw a tweet about a conservative columnist admitting that getting herself and her readers angry was the best strategy, and, to be honest, it is a disgusting strategy.
4. “An affordable alternative to privatized health care”
The most important part of the episode came when MM and Hughie went after Butcher at his aunt’s house and they are forced to confront Black Noir, of course we have seen that this guy is unkillable so their strategy of “Home Alone-ing” the house fails.
So, to save Hughie, Butcher threatens Noir, he is willing to go public with the revelation that Homelander raped his wife and that Vought is hiding his son (which are also news to the team), and Stan Edgar intervenes and they make a truce, they have survived another day.
Butcher saving Hughie and revealing that Becca had a son are two very meaningful moments for us as an audience, we are used to see Buthcer being diabolical, but now we learned that he indeed cares. I think back to the first season and I remember that Butcher saw Hughie as disposable, but he never got rid of him, and that is because Butcher needs a moral compass, his late brother used to be that compass and now Hughie is.
Continued below5. Stormfront has an endgame
At this point we all know that Stormfront is a white supremacist, and she is controlling everything around her, she ”implicitly” shows her disdain for A-Train, and she knows that Annie is the mole, and, most importantly she is manipulating Homelander, with her help to get more popular and with extremely violent sex.
This is a very sad satire, we see each day the rise of White Supremacy in the United States and the institutions that are supposed to protect both the law and the people are either hand tied or unwilling to do so. And while people fight in real life, The Boys are going to have to fight Stormfront, she has an endgame and they must be careful because she is going to cause a fucking war.
BONUS: This is not only a satire of our world, this also is a superhero parody and we enjoyed a lot of that on this episode, throwing shade at Joss cuts and #GirlPower scenes, god, I love this show, I laugh and I get sad in just an hour.
And that’s it for this episode, every gear of the machine is getting in place and on the last three episodes are going to be a blast. What did you think of this episode? Leave your comments below and join us next week for our take on episode 206, “The Bloody Doors Off”.
