Hi folks! Welcome back to our weekly recap of The Flash. This week’s episode is named “A Girl Named Sue,” and I’m really excited because the most important storyline (personally) of the season is finally taking a big leap forward: Ralph’s love interest is here! I swear I have been waiting for this moment all season long, Ralph is my favorite character (if you haven’t noticed) and he deserves to be happy, so let’s dive right in.

1. 274 days

After searching for her for 9 months, Sue Dearborn is finally in town and kind-soul-Ralph is finally getting his love interest! He goes to investigate the purchase of a house and is saved from an explosion by Sue herself!

Turns out that she fell in love with a goon named John Loring, a male version of the woman who killed Sue in the “Identity Crisis” (oops, spoilers from a 16 year old book), and she is trying to get dirt on him to get him arrested and come back to her family.

I really liked the first impression of Sue, a quirky, ingenious and comeback expert, she and Ralph immediately have chemistry, I tough that they will be that kind of couple that laughs of eachother and is constantly lovingly teasing their significant other and I am on board with that.

2. 1322 attempts to escape

Iris’ storyline could be easily resumed in one line this episode: She finds Eva McCulloch on the mirror universe, try and fail to escape and discovers that Eva has some kind of mirror manipulation powers.

But there’s much on this few lines, Iris discovers that after a fuck-ton amount of attempts to escape her prison, the owner of McCulloch Enterprises develops some kind of mental issue, it could be as simple as anger issues or as complicated as Bipolarity or even Dissociative Identity Disorder. Also, Eva discovered that his husband moved on rather quickly after losing her, so she doesn’t have much motivation to come back. And it all comes together at the end.

3. Two birds, falling in love

While working on a plan to catch John Loring, Cecile meets Ralph and Sue on CCJitters, and she is happy to tell Ralph that she could barely tell them apart with her mind powers, that means that they instantly connected on a spiritual/mental level, and although they fight constantly, the chemistry is undeniable.

Natalie Dreyfuss did a great job as Sue Dearborn, she is not a simple woman destined to be just the wife of Ralph, she wants to be an independent woman, not just from a man, but from her heritage/inheritance, she is not made to be a socialite and the actress injects an awesome energy to her character, I love that this is not a complicated relationship, they solve the case, fell in love and all is great, surely their relationship doesn’t need a complicated betrayal or something like that, amirite?

4. One betrayal!

Well, fuck! They broke my heart! But I truly didn’t expected to Sue to betray Ralph, I even thought during the episode “this could be a more complicated storyline and I’m happy that it isn’t,” and then TREASON! She locks Ralph in a bank’s vault!

I am pleasantly surprised with how it turned out, some of you might think, “dude, it was predictable” but I totally bought what was happening, and I like that she has her own suit, she’s not a damsel in distress, she’s ready to be part of the fight. To be honest, I didn’t think that a shootout courtesy of Loring and then a fight with Ultraviolet was really necessary but, as I said earlier, it all comes together at the end.

5. And a Black Hole

The third story of this episode involved Barry and Joe investigating a series of ‘accidents’ related to people close to Eva’s husband Joseph Carver and involving Dr. Light’s powers. Barry admits that the Black Hole problem is bigger than he thought and gives false-Iris the mirror gun that she asked earlier to keep investigating, which obviously is not true and she has an evil plan.

Then, Eva and Iris are trapped in the mirror universe and it has something to do with Carver “moving on” so quickly after Eva’s loss. And finally, on the cliffhanger scene, the Diamond that Sue stole has etched information on Black Hole, so, almost every storyline of the season is coming together, unveiling a big conspiracy.

BONUS: When Ralph is taking pictures of John Loring, and the henchman takes his camera and breaks it, they said that the photos are lost, but, the body only got detached from the lens! The SD card should be still intact? Right? Right! I guess that at some point Sue deleted them or something like that but that’s a flimsy ass excuse for advancing an otherwise fine enough plot.

ANOTHER BONUS: Nash keeps seeing Harry wells and is ridden with guilt, he looked for Harry’s diary and I am intrigued with what will happen in the next episodes.

And that’s it for this episode, it was one of my favorites so far in this season, I giggled like a kid at Ralph and Sue’s relationship and was heartbroken with the twist, I was fully invested in the episode and I loved it.
