Hi folks! Welcome back to our weekly recap of The Flash. This week’s episode is named “Rayo de Luz”, here, Barry and Iris are on vacation, and Frost is on a mission, so, the rest of the team have to fend off by themselves. The Main plot of involves Allegra trying to reunite with her cousin Esperanza, but most importantly, that opens the door to have a lot development in five characters, let’s dive right in!

1. La Llanera Solitaria

When Ultraviolet attacks Chester and Allegra at CC Jitters, Sue Dearborn arrives to save their skin. She is against Allegra’s plan to redeem her bad cousin, she knows Ultraviolet from her time in Black Hole and believes that you cannot trust anyone who doesn’t want to be saved.

She later reveals that this belief is reinforced because, after freeing her parents from Carver’s blackmailing, Sue discovered that they were not good people, in fact, they willingly benefited from that situation and decided to keep getting richer by that corruption. So, she chose not to do anything about it, if they do not want to be saved they do not deserve it.

However, Allegra reminds her that neither Sue nor she wanted redemption when they met Team Flash, but they did not give up on them and in fact, at the end both women got their redemption thanks to them; in that same way, her cousin deserves to at least have the opportunity of redemption. With that, Sue decides to stay on Central City to try to save their parents.

Oh! Another thing. At the beginning of the episode it seemed that all the scenes with Sue were super-imposed and I felt that she did not act at the same time as the rest of the cast. It was a bit obvious that maybe they added the character at the last minute, or that there were scheduling conflicts, but I hope that Natalie Dreyfuss soon can join the team more actively.

2. Tu tumba llora por un muerto

Naturally, Ultraviolet did not intend to be saved, on the contrary she was on a mission to kill a scientist. When the team stop her before killing the doctor, she reveals that it was him who experimented on her, and that made her a powered meta without a voice.

Allegra at first manages to convince her that they should work as a team to stop the doctor, but after injuring Chester, Esperanza decides to work on her own. Then, the scientist convinces Esperanza to attack her cousin, but Allegra uses all her powers to stop the villain. In the end, after saving the day, she still offers her cousin the chance to be cured, because all villains deserve to be saved regardless of their past, and most importantly, event without Team Flash managed to keep their streak of successfully redeeming bad guys intact.

The only thing I did not fully enjoy in the episode was listening to the characters speak Spanish because some their lines of dialogue were very cheesy, technically they were correct, but they were loaded with drama and that made some of their lines very funny, seriously, who says “your tomb cries for a dead”?

3. Chester has feelings

Chester had a small arc in which he wanted to prove Allegra that he was on her side and supported her in the decisions she made, which caused him to have a wrist injury at first and then almost lost his life with a beam from Ultraviolet.

It is clear that the creative team is looking to add a new romantic story between Allegra and Chuck I think that it will be an interesting story to follow. Since Barry and Iris got married, there is space to have a new romantic story with its own conflicts to follow. I think there is chemistry between both actors and their character’s incipient relationship works effectively so far.

4. Operation Griffin

Meanwhile, Joe continues his investigation on Kramer and discovers that she was in fact, involved in a problem during her time as a soldier, so he goes to her office to confront her, which incites the anger of the new police captain.

Later, he received a message from Kramer who proposed to meet to explain herself; it is a risk for him, what if this is a setup? He still chose to meet her, despite the fact that it could be a trap. Kramer reveals that it was her ‘brother’ who set a trap for her unit. Since then, she has been searching for the reason of his best friend’s betrayal, so Joe offers to help her now that he learned that Kramer’s intentions are good.

It’s interesting, I thought that Kramer –who, by the way is Native American and I realized until just now–, was on the road of no redemption, but The Flash proposes her that, even the least likable characters in the show have nuance and depth, and they deserve to be treated and respect.

5. TFW your cousin is a villain

Finally, this episode focused on Allegra, the newest character on the show, and we had the opportunity to learn more about her personality and the way she acts when problems arise. She is a young character and we can see that Allegra has learned from Team Flash and acts accordingly with what she has learned so far.

Here we saw why actor Kayla Compton has earned the opportunity to be part of the main cast, she gives us a very good performance full of emotions and with the clear desire to be part of the team for a long time. When Carlos Valdes left, I talked about how we lost a Latino character, but luckily Compton is here and Allegra will keep that Latine representation on the show.

BONUS: What’s up with Barry struggling to talk about forming a family? I understand that it is written to be funny and maybe there are some restrictions about what you can say when your show is family-friendly, but talking about sex is healthy and nothing to be embarrassed about! Come on, you can say that they are looking to form a family without saying the word sex.

And that’s it for this episode, when Danielle Panabaker directs you can expect a great episode, it’s becoming a staple in the show. What did you think of this episode? Leave your comments below and join us next week for our take on episode 715, “Enemy at the Gates,” Goodspeed is back.
