Hi folks! Welcome back to our weekly recap of The Flash. This week’s episode is named “The Icicle Cometh” and we got to see 4 different storylines in one week. Caitlin’s dad is back, Iris and Nora’s relationship is healing, Cecile got back to catching criminals, and Cicada is… well, he’s here. Let’s dive right in.

1. Saved the world between contractions

While investigating about this season’s villain, Team Flash decided to look for two leads, for the first one, Ralph must go to FEMA for a list of recipients after the Day of the Enlightenment that match Cicada’s description, and Cecile joins the ride.

As you surely remember, we talked last week about Jesse L. Martin taking a leave of absence, so, while Joe West is temporarily out, Cecile has a chance to shine by herself.

This plot may have been the least important of this whole episode, but I think it’s cool to see two actors having fun with the dialogue, I think you can notice how much Hartley Sawyer and –particularly today– Danielle Nicolet, enjoy doing their characters, and we, as an audience, appreciate how committed they are.

2. Recovering the satellite’s core

The second lead that Team Flash follows is the shrapnel-turn-dagger that Cicada uses. Due to the level of dark matter in Cisco’s wounds, they deduct that it must come from the core of the satellite, so Iris and Sherloque go to the area where it dropped to find it, and Nora tags along, still amazed by Iris’ bravery on last week’s episode.

While debating and dealing with Sherloque’s teacup, the girls guess that the core may be underwater, and Nora tries Iris’ tidal wave-breaking technique from her time as a speedster, so, they are getting along just fine.

3. The North Pole… obviously

While the rest of the team go to their missions, Cisco, Barry and Caitlin travel to the North Pole to rescue her father, they find him, and he explains that, although he was able to see them, it was impossible to communicate and come out.
Back on the lab, after a little bonding time between the Snows, old man Thomas faints, so, they plan to design a serum with

Caitlin’s cells to try to stabilize her father’s decease, he has ALS –Amyothrophic Lateral Sclerosis– and it’s hereditary, so he tried to prevent her daughter’s decease, creating Khione/Killer Frost. But, after the serum, he fully recovers, and they live happily ever after, am I right?

4. Of course not… introducing: Icicle

Cisco was rightly suspicious of Thomas, after going back to the North Pole and finding skin grafts, he confronts him, but Caitlin and Barry defended him.

Then, after a talk with Cisco, Barry asks Caitlin to take a moment and analyze the facts. It turns out that, just like Caitlin/Killer Frost, Thomas developed an evil personality, that’s why he was locked up in that facility in the North Pole.

Icicle goes to a government facility where they made a laser cooling array, to inject himself with the serum at absolute zero, all our heroes try to stop him, but the room was too cold and they almost die frozen, which triggers Killer Frost’s comeback.

At the end, Icicle escapes, but Killer Frost is back, it turns out that DeVoe didn’t use his meta-nullifying abilities, but instead, he used a mental block, which means she will have to work to fully bring back her powers, but it´s doable. A win for the team.

5. Following Orlin

Lastly, we followed Cicada on his killing spree, he murdered a meta that can make blades with her hands, but he suffered injuries. Then, he goes to the hospital for supplies and argue with the doctor, and, after he passes out in his home, the doctor finds him and tries to help him, but he says that his injuries only make him stronger.

It’s worth noting that when the doctor enters the house, she find’s a picture of the daughter, Grace, but the father is not Orlin, what will it mean for our heroes?

Bonus: Thomas Snow namedropped Louise Lincoln, the second Killer Frost, and Victor Fries, Mr. Freeze. Will Icicle team-up with another iteration of Killer Frost. Also, we know Nora Fries will appear in “Elseworlds”, this year’s Arrowverse crossover, could we also meet Mr. Freeze?

That’s it for this episode, overall, it was very entertaining, and they set up a lot of things for what will come up on the upcoming episodes. So, what did you think of this episode? Leave your comments below and join us next week for our take on episode 507, “O Come, All Ye Faithful”.
