Hey guys! Welcome to our The Walking Dead weekly review. Today we are talking about season 10 episode 6, or as some may call it, “Bonds.” Carol is back with us in this episode, and there are some seriously risky situations for the rest of our extended cast. There’ a lot to cover, so let’s go!

1. Negan and the Whisperers

I really admire Negan’s courage and boldness.

Last week’s episode ends with the old villain arriving in the Whisperers territory, already in this episode, he goes through a “test” alongside Beta, to find out if he is worthy to join the group. One thing you need to know: The annoying Negan is back. For a group of weird villains called “The Whisperers,” Negan isn’t that silent at all, and Beta makes a point of reminding him of this sometimes. Speaking of Beta, I also admire the big guy’s willpower for not having ripped Negan’s head off during the episode, when it seemed that Beta himself who was going through a test.

Negan’s determination to impress Alpha might have killed him early on, but somehow, the leader wanted Negan to pass the test.

Halfway through the episode, we had a mix of scenes with a very laid-back soundtrack showing how Negan was doing alongside Beta during the day; scalping zombies, digging graves and hunting pigs. Poor Negan did badly on almost every task, but his success came where Beta least expected it.

It was already night, and Negan joined Beta and other Whisperers alongside a horde of zombies, and as usual Negan didn’t stop talking not for one Goddamn second. Trying to convince Beta that he would definitely join the group, the big guy insisted that the old villain would never become one of them, saying that he was too loud, too weak and full of ego, and to prove that Beta was right Negan simply replies with “I mean, it ain’t ego if I really am that awesome.” That was risky, and funny, and made me laugh. Then Beta lost his temper and stabbed a random Whisperer to draw attention from the zombies and then he left, leaving Negan alone to deal with dozens of zombies.

On the next day, Beta convinced that he had put an end to Negan, the old villain arrives at the camp, covered by blood saying that he’s ready for his Goddamn skin suit.

Fuck, Negan is dope, we can’t ever deny that.

And then he kneels before Alpha and she welcomes him to the group.

2. Carol and Daryl’s mission

Carol and Daryl’s fellowship during the show is something to appreciate. In many times on this season we see them together talking somewhere like old friends, about running away from that place and living a new life or going after Alpha alone to get revenge for everything she’s done. And this time, Carol convinced Daryl to do this, not to flee, of course, but to go on a dangerous mission behind the Whisperers across the border. Carol’s idea is to follow a Whisperer and find out where they keep the horde of zombies that becomes bigger everyday and threaten the lives of so many people. Daryl accepts the mission and they sneak past the Whisperers’ territory.

They follow a group of zombies that’s being led by a Whisperer, peeking through the trees and trying to be silent. Daryl then gives Carol a command to hide somewhere else, but Carol persists and doesn’t follow Daryl’s orders. And then Carol stepped on a branch and the walkers came out of the formation and into the woods following the noise. The Whisperers go back to find out the source of the noise. I’ll never get tired of seeing those masked freaks walking like zombies and whispering among the walkers, it’s so weird and so creepy! While Daryl hides behind a tree fearing for his life he hears one of the Whisperers whispering “keep looking,” and that gave me goosebumps.

They manage to get away, but when Daryl finds her, he comes across her holding a gagged Whisperer and asks Carol what the hell she’s doing. According to Carol, he saw her and she couldn’t let him go back to the camp because it was going to compromise everyone. But as smart as he is, Daryl realizes that kidnapping a Whisper has always been her plan, and she only used him all this time.

I don’t know what to expect, because Alpha’s chances of knowing they’ve crossed the border are high, and kidnapping a Whisperer just makes the situation even more dangerous. Carol, despite being determined, is underestimating the leader of the Whisperers, who won’t like it at all.

3. Some weird disease in Alexandria

A strange disease is taking over Alexandria. (My God, don’t these people have a minute of peace?) At the beginning of the episode we saw a laid-back scene between Dante and an old woman where she says she’s feeling bad and he jokes that she just keeps going to the infirmary because she was in love with him. Later, Eugene is testing a new radio and calls Alexandria to talk to Rosita, who says she’s not feeling well. Siddiq visits her and force her to go to the infirmary. Once there, Siddiq saw something he didn’t expect; The crowded infirmary, countless people feeling sick and apparently having the same symptoms. What would that be? Is it another Alpha work to attack her enemies? Does this disease have any connection with the zombies throwed in the river by Gamma on last episode? Whatever it is, it looks like it’s going to get worse in the next few episodes.

4. Siddiq is not getting any better

Speaking of illness, Siddiq seems to be getting crazier and crazier.

I’ve been telling you since the first episode of this season about how Siddiq has been losing his mind from time to time. The trauma he suffered last season still haunts the poor fellow. And this time, something very serious almost happened.

After Siddiq took Rosita to the infirmary. He kept taking care of the babies until he fell asleep in his bed. But in the middle of a nightmare Siddiq suddenly wakes up and finds himself on the roof of one of the camp houses carrying the baby! I couldn’t help thinking that if he didn’t wake up in time, he would jump and die both him and the baby. Lucky for him, no one has seen it, because as everyone in this show apparently has the spirit to judge anyone, Siddiq would easily have been arrested to contain his traumas or even expelled from Alexandria.

5. Eugene and the radio

I always loved Eugene’s genius, even when he switched sides and was with The Saviors in the Negan villainous era. I mentioned up there that Eugene was testing a new radio at the camp. Well, Rosita wasn’t the only one he contacted during that time.

Eugene was testing a new frequency on the open channel when a female voice answered him, saying she was surprised that she heard something because she never imagined it happening. Eugene then, also surprised, starts talking to the stranger, wanting to know more about her, asking her name, where she lives and if she’s alone. I would never pass these informations to a stranger on the radio, Eugene’s weird attitude after all that they’ve been through for the past few years, right? How can he trust someone like that? Although the smartness, he was quite naive.

The woman tells Eugene that she is not comfortable sharing about her and where she lives because she doesn’t know who he is and could compromise his safety (and I couldn’t agree more). Despite that, they both spent the day talking, telling each other about their lives before the apocalypse happened, and realized that they were perhaps closer than they imagined. But who is this girl? With so much bad things going on, deep down I’m afraid it might be yet another Alpha strategy to destroy Hilltop and the other camps.

So, was it a good episode? I’m anxious to know what will Negan do now. Is he an infiltrator or a traitor? Is Alpha going to find out what Carol did? Leave in the comments and I’ll see you next week!
