To celebrate our “Evolution of Abe Sapien” art contest, which gives every fan with some ambition and a modicum of artistic talent a chance to have their work published in an issue of “Abe Sapien: Dark and Terrible,” as well as take home a complete set of Hellboy Library Editions, we decided to bring in some ringers, to show us how they interpret everyone’s favorite fish-man. We will be posting pieces each day for this entire month, so come join us for 31 Days of Abe!
All this week, we will be featuring artists who are part of Ashcan Allstars, a sketchblog with a weekly theme. Prior to this week, we shared Abes by Tyler Crook and Moritat, both of whom are Ashcan gents, but this week we have even more Ashcan pals contributing pieces. Today’s Abe comes from both the deep, dark trenches of the ocean, and from Robbi Rodriguez. Robbi is the creator of “Frankie Get Your Gun,” an ‘acid western’ which you can download right here. In addition, Robbi has done such divergent projects as Stephen Colbert’s “Tek Jansen” and the Harvey-nominated “Maintenance” (both published by Oni Press), “Hero Camp” and “Haunt” for Image, “Uncanny X-Force” for Marvel and “The Unexpected” for Vertigo.
