To celebrate our “Evolution of Abe Sapien” art contest, which gives every fan with some ambition and a modicum of artistic talent a chance to have their work published in an issue of “Abe Sapien: Dark and Terrible,” as well as take home a complete set of Hellboy Library Editions, we decided to bring in some ringers, to show us how they interpret everyone’s favorite fish-man. We will be posting pieces each day for this entire month, so come join us for 31 Days of Abe!

Throughout the month, we will be posting a series of pieces by artists who regularly post at the fantastic sketch blog Brand New Nostalgia each morning this week. Check back weekly at their site, as each week their highly talented roster of artists tackle a different – and exciting! – subject.
Today, we have Portugese artist Jorge Coelho, who you may have seen from his work in “Forgetless” for Image/Shadowline, and who you will be certainly seeing as the artist on “Polarity,” the upcoming BOOM! comic from Max Bemis (of Say Anything fame). He also illustrates the webcomic Suckers (written by Eric Skillman), and posts some incredible commissions on his deviantArt page. Make sure to check out his blog and follow him on Twitter (@JCoelhoPT)
